This is a place where you can rest your head while making new friends along the way. Each room has balconies or terraces that overlook either the Torremolinos heartland, or the sea, depending on where you are housed. There's a good on-site restaurant as well.

Another hotel set near a beach is the all-inclusive VIK Gran Hotel Costa del Sol. It is within easy reach of two major golf clubs, and the nearest beach in Mijas. Hotel facilities include an outdoor pool, a restaurant and a café. The guestrooms offer wireless internet access, and balconies with delightful views of the sea or nearby mountains.

Jardines De La Reina Boutique Bed & Breakfast in Marbella is another excellent choice. Costa del Sol Beach for February

Cabopino beach, only 12 km from Marbella and 14 km from Fuengirola, is set among the Artola dunes and borders the Cabopino Marina. This is a lovely sandy beach fringed by pine trees and is well sheltered from the elements, with artificial reefs on either side of the beach to help keep waves and wind at bay.

There are also some good beachside bars and restaurants nearby, plenty of parking and lifeguards watch the beach with eagle eyes throughout the summer. Water-related activities are available too, plus this beach offers a spectacular view along long the coast to Marbella, Gibraltar and Africa and is one of the resort's few beaches that aren't flanked by concrete behemoths.

Santa Ana beach in Benalmadena is close to the marina and is 500 metres long. While it gets jam-packed in the summer, February is a good time to come and enjoy this Blue Flag beach. Also, Torre Bermeja beach is only a pebble's throw away; the two beaches are only separated by an artificial dyke. Santa Ana beach has a restaurant, free parking and wheelchair access.

Bars and Restaurants

Some of the finest Italian food to be found on the Costa del Sol can be found at De Fano restaurant in Benalmadena. Soak up the laid back atmosphere and eat al fresco on the terrace overlooking the harbour. This restaurant is definitely good value for money, and is the place to beeline to if you fancy a tasty pizza or big plate of pasta.

Restaurante Zenart in Malaga is not easy to find, but once you do track it down, it's guaranteed to satiate any cravings for food of the Asian persuasion, namely Japanese food. The chef prepares authentic Japanese dishes from scratch, the staff are super friendly and the décor is suitably exotic.

The El Cantor de Jazz venue in Malaga is ideal for holidaymakers who want to enjoy a laidback atmosphere, friendly service and live jazz nights (held here every Thursday evening).

Arguably the most well known English bar in Fuengirola is The London Pub. Located centrally on the busy Fuengirola promenade, it is close to many hotels and restaurants, so you can really make a night of it. The bar is open until 4am, and the choice of music is eclectic with some classic tunes from yesteryear bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, to today's more upbeat pop hits.

Things to do in Costa del Sol in February

Malaga Cathedral is one of Costa del Sol's most historic and iconic buildings. This structure dates back to the 15th century, and showcases stunning Renaissance architecture. Situated around the edge of the cathedral are little chapels, which are dedicated to the different saints of Spain, who are annually celebrated during the year via a selection of festivals, feasts and fiestas.

Little ones will no doubt love Parque De La Paloma in Benalmadena. The top of the park has massive climbing facilities and an activity centre, along with a playground and a smaller climbing frame for the smaller kids. This attraction is also ideal for those who just fancy a gentle stroll around its 200,000 square metres of picturesque parkland, don't forget to pack a picnic. The park is home to a wide array of birdlife, including roosters and peacocks, plus there is a flea market and fruit and vegetable market based within the park every Wednesday.
