A typical day in October has no fewer than 7 hours of sunshine, much more than the United Kingdom and the rest of Western Europe are used to in autumn. Make no mistake; Costa del Silencio is a spectacularly sunny place, in October and all-year round.

There is a spike in the total amount of rainfall, however, when compared to September's 4mm of rainfall in total; October receives 12mm, spread out over 4 days of the month. This is by no means a lot, though. Rather the contrary, there are 27 days that are completely dry in October! Where to Stay

Tenerife's south coast is one of the most popular year-round beach destinations in all of Spain. When visiting in October, book yourself a room at the amazing Sunset Harbour Club in Adeje. Accommodation is available in studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, all offering full kitchens and either balconies or terraces. Guests can eat and drink at the resort's restaurants and bars, swim in the pool, play a round of golf, or simply wind down at the spa.

Another suggested hotel is Parque Cristobal Tenerife, located in Playa de las Americas. This three-star hotel lies near the promenade and its restaurants, bars and shops. You can stay in one of the bungalows, which all have kitchens, a furnished terrace, a living room, bathroom and one or two bedrooms. Things to Do

October is one of the quietest months in Costa del Silencio and the rest of Tenerife. The weather, however, has nothing to do with itt is still amazingly warm and sunny. If you're looking for something to do during your autumn holiday, why not visit Monkey Park? This is a small zoo and breeding centre for small primates and endangered animals. This park doesn't organise animal shows or anything, but simply lets its visitors see the animals. They aim to show the animal as it really is and behaves, not performing unnatural tricks.

One of the greatest things to do in Tenerife is going for a nightly excursion into Teide National Park. This excursion involves travelling by coach to the park, drinking a cup of hot chocolate before heading out onto the trail, and spending a significant amount of time looking up at the night sky under the guidance of a professional astronomer. Tenerife is one of the world's premier stargazing destinations, so definitely try to include a stargazing excursion into your itinerary. It's totally worth it!

Hit the Beach

The sea temperature is never warmer than it is in October, now averaging 24°C. This is still a good time to go for a dip in the ocean. A suggested beach to visit is Playa las Vistas, located between Los Christianos and Playa de las Americas. This long sandy beach has Blue Flag status and features many rows of sunbeds, a fountain in the middle, boat excursions and crystal-clear water.

Eating and Drinking Out

Gulliver's Grillhouse in San Blas is a suggested restaurant for visitors who are looking for some great meat dishes. Guests can enjoy superb steaks, lamb cutlets, mixed grills and fish (and more) either in the decorative indoor dining area or on the al-fresco terrace. The menu also features an extensive selection of drinks.

The Paloma Beach Poolside Bar is a laidback eating and drinking venue in Los Christianos. Guests are lyrical about the food and service, and the location is appreciated as well. If you're after simple comfort food that you can enjoy right next to a swimming pool, this is a place to consider. Its menu includes dishes such as seafood paella, various steaks, roast beef and so on. There are weekly events as well, ranging from quiz nights to live sports on TV, barbecue nights and live music performances.

A restaurant specialising in seafood and fish, Restaurante La Marina is located in Las Galletas. It is made up of two floors and overlooks the ocean and the harbour. This is an affordable eatery, great for a quick afternoon snack or a light lunch.
