The month of June initiates the summer season in the Canary Islands, Spain. This is the absolute peak tourist seasoninter is also quite popular, thoughs the weather is now at its warmest, driest and sunniest. Costa del Silencio, a purposely constructed tourist resort on the southeastern tip of Tenerife receives large numbers of visitors at this time of year, particularly toward the end of the month, when the summer holidays start.

June is an exceptionally dry month in Tenerife. Receiving essentially no rainfall at all, this is the driest month of the year. Only July is similarly dry. There is merely 1 day with precipitation this month. In fact, during the entire summer season, June through September, there are only 4 days with rainfallhat is 4 days with some kind of rainfall out of 122 days. The chance of experiencing any kind of precipitation is no higher than 2% throughout the whole month, which is essentially nothing. This is a splendidly dry destination, ideal for tanning and swimming in the ocean.

In June, the water temperature of the Atlantic Ocean averages 21°C, which is already high enough to offer refreshing dips in the ocean. In the afternoon, the temperature rises to an average high of 24°C; at night, it dips to an average low of 18°C. This is a time of year for shorts, shirts, hats and sun cream. The average temperature is 21°C.

June is one of the sunniest months of the entire yearnly July is sunniernd has 9 hours of sunshine per day on average.

Where to Stay

A strongly recommended place to stay on the southeast coast of Tenerife is Fairways Club. This accommodation complex has a combination of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as studio apartments. It lies next to the Amarillo Golf course and features a large outdoor pool and no fewer than four restaurants and bars.

Spring Arona Gran Hotel is another suggested hotel for your June holiday. It is situated in Los Christianos and boasts a number of impressive amenities, such as the Thalasso Spa, free Wi-Fi, the Las Vistas Restaurant and the La Palapa Grill, three wonderful swimming pools, a shopping gallery, and a piano bar and disco.

The adults-only Dream Noelia Sur is a four-star hotel in Playa de las Americas. If you are after a holiday in the sun, this is a superb place to stay, located close to the beach and featuring its own large swimming pool with sundeck. After, or during, a day of sunbathing, you can relax at one of the hotel's bars or restaurants.

Things to Do

Tenerife and the Canary Islands are unique in Europe. These volcanic islands feature landscapes that don't exist anywhere else on the continent. When visiting in June, make sure to not only spend time on the beaches, but also to go for road trips and see what this place really is all about. A must-visit destination is Malpais de Güimar, a nature reserve that consists of barren volcanic terrain and cones, which have been created by volcanic activity. These unique ecosystems are home to a number of plant and animal species endemic to the area. This is a wonderful place to go hiking. Don't forget your camera!

A bit less adventurous, even though as much, if not more, fun, are wine walks. A tapas and wine walking tour really is as good as it sounds, involving hiking through beautiful natural scenery and ending with a tapas and wine dinner in Vilaflor, incidentally the highest village in all of Spain.

Hit the Beach

Costa Adeje is located on the southwestern side of Tenerife's southern tiposta del Silencio lies on the southeastern side. This is where some of the greatest beaches in the area are found. Playa del Duque is a particularly fine beach, made up of turquoise 21°C-warm water and soft sand. This beach has showers, sunbeds, changing rooms and even an on-beach massage service, and is backed by high-end bars, great restaurants and cosy cafés.

Eating and Drinking Out

For a fun afternoon, evening or night out, consider heading to the Monkey Beach Club in Adeje. This bustling place is open pretty much around the clock and offers direct access to a sandy beach and the Atlantic Ocean. This is a recommended venue for sunset drinks, casual meals and simply a relaxing time on, or along, the beach. It also happens to organise some of the absolute best beach parties in Tenerife.

Las Taquerias is a recommended restaurant for anyone looking for Mexican fare. This is a well-rated restaurant, a place where you can enjoy some of the Mexican classics, such as tacos, burritos, nachos and enchiladas. Of course, they serve Corona as well.

For some mouthwatering meat dishes, head over to Harvester Café Bistro, a charming, basic restaurant serving all kinds of food. It is said that their steaks and lamb shanks are among the best on the island, so definitely try some of those.
