Costa del Silencio is a purpose built resort town on the southeast coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This archipelago off the coast of northwestern Africa is a hugely popular winter vacation destination because of its incredible weather. In January, many people from northern Europe visit this resort to escape the wet and cold winters at home.
January may be the coolest month of the year in Costa del Silencio, but that doesn't mean that it is cold. The average temperature is still 18°C, which is a delight compared with essentially all other places in Europe. Afternoons see the mercury rise to an average high of 21°C; at night, the temperature remains around 14°C. These temperatures are comparable to those in February. The sea water is even warmer than the air this time of year, averaging 20°C.
Rainfall is never substantial in these parts and January is no exception. There is an average of 17mm of precipitation in total in Costa del Silencio, which, in fact, makes this the fourth wettest month of the yearet it be clear that this is a dry destination. The only months that receive more precipitation, but never huge amounts, are November, December and February. There are only 5 days with rainfall. On any given day, there is a chance of rainfall of only 11%. Rainfall, when it happens, occurs as various different types. Drizzle, moderate rain and light rain are the most common, respectively occurring on 31%, 29% and 20% of the days with precipitation.
The chances of experiencing a completely sunny day are much higher2%. Cloudy days are only seen 6% of the time in this resort. Cloud cover ranges between 37% and 40% this time of year and each day has 6 hours of sunshine on average.

Where to Stay
Consider booking a room at Alondras Park Apartments during your January holiday. Situated in the heart of Costa del Silencio, this complex has no fewer than 147 apartments, set beautifully around three swimming pools. Apartments have either one or two bedrooms. Additionally, there is a poolside bar, a restaurant and a supermarket.
Situated only about 200 metres from Los Christianos Beach, TRYP Tenerife is a superbly located resort near many of the attractions in the area. It has all-inclusive packages and plenty of amenities, including a 24-hour fitness centre, an adult and a kids' pool, beautiful gardens, themed buffets and a huge variety of entertainment.
A four-star resort set right by the ocean and only a kilometre from one of Tenerife's best golf courses, Vincci Tenerife Golf Hotel is a wonderful place to stay whether you're a golf enthusiast or not! Its facilities range from a spa and pool to a mini-club, restaurant and bar.
Things to Do
People visiting Costa del Silencio in mid-winter will still be able to spend essentially all day every day outside. Rainfall is minimal, temperatures more than comfortable. Golf enthusiasts will be in heaven in this areahere are several splendid golf courses. Definitely check out Golf del Sur, a vibrant resort town that gets its name from its superb 27-tier golf course. The oceanfront course consists of beautiful lawns dotted with palm trees and lush vegetation, including flowering plants and cacti. Playing a round of golf with the sun on your face, and relaxing afterward in the exclusive clubhouse is a pretty amazing way to spend a day in January.
Other recommended golf courses in southern Tenerife are Golf las Americas and Golf Costa Adeje.
The Jungle Park Wildlife Park is a completely different attraction. Located in Los Christianos, this is both a zoo and botanical garden, an always-popular place to visit with children. At the park, visitors can watch spectacular bird of prey shows, enjoy a wonderful sea lion family show and see various big cats up closehere are lions, leopards, jaguars and pumas. The parrot shows are particularly popular among the youngest kids. Additionally, there are also primates, penguins, raccoons and crocodiles, as well as other attractions and playgrounds. The park lies a short distance from the beach in Los Christianos and is open all-year round.
Eating and Drinking Out
If you are hungry after a fun day of exploringnd you will beonsider heading to El Cordero Restaurant in Las Galletas. This hugely popular and well-rated restaurant focuses on Spanish food and is a great place to go for dinner if you like meat. Its charming outdoor area consists of basic tables and chairs and large "thatched-roof" parasols.
Another excellent dining venue, located right in the heart of Costa del Silencio, is The Totem. This down-to-earth restaurant may not have the largest of menus, but it definitely compensates for that by using the freshest ingredients available and focusing almost solely on traditional Canarian food.
