Costa de la Luz, or the âcoast of lightâ as it would be known in English, is situated on the South-West tip of Spain to the West of Costa del Sol. With around 12 hours of bright daylight throughout June, July and August, Costa de la Luz truly lives up to its name. The resort is popular with tourists seeking a tan, Brits in search of sunburn and, perhaps more tellingly, many Spaniards looking to take a break without leaving the country.
Hot days on one of the thirty-five beaches in the area are tempered by breezes blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean. The sea there is a beautiful, clear blue and relatively warm all year round with temperatures averaging over 20°C from June to October; this more than justifies the abundance of water-based activities in Costa de la Luz, activities which include snorkelling, swimming, sailing and surfing.
In fact, the water is sometimes warmer than the air there, which has been recorded at an average temperature of between 21°C and 23°C during the summer. The coldest month is January according to local temperature averages; however, at 10°C, it is still not as cold as winters in many other places. It is also important to note that, because the humidity tends to be around 70% (with some fluctuation), the climate can often feel slightly warmer than it actually is.
Summer<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Costa de la Luz offers perfect beach weather during the summer; from June to August there is a great deal of sunshine (around 12hours per day), hot sea temperatures for water activities and little, if any, rain (except in the mountainous regions). In fact, the average amount of rainfall for July is exactly zero millimetres, making Costa de la Luzâs summers dryer than advanced math lessons with the Rain Man. The highest typical temperatures are 30°C and 31°C which occur during July and August, while the lowest average temperatures for summer are 17°C and 19°C which apply to June and July respectively.
Winter
Winter is a quieter time to visit Costa de la Luz since fewer tourists choose this time to holiday; nevertheless the weather is still mild, thanks to a combination of the regionâs Southern location and the influence of the Atlantic. The lowest average temperatures range between 8°C and 9°C from December to February while the highest average temperatures are between 16°C and 17°C. Due to the generally clement climate some accommodation does not have central heating, so a warmer outfit may be needed for the evenings. There are 5/6 hours of sunlight in winter and a slightly increased chance of rain (so it could be useful to obtain a forecast before booking). The sea is typically warmer than the land at this time of year, maintaining an average temperature of 16/17°C.
Spring/Autumn
During spring and autumn the best weather is in May and September which experience average temperature ranges of 14-24°C and 19-29°C respectively and 9/10hours of sunlight each. There is a good chance of a few days of rain in September and October. In April the average temperature ranges from 12°C to 21°C which, combined with 8hours of sunshine and a reduced chance of rain, makes it a popular choice for Easter holidays.
