Things to do in Coral Bay in February
Although swimming is not recommended in February, there are many other family friendly outdoor activities to choose from. Because of the mild temperatures this month, discomfort caused by heat or heatstroke is not a risk. For this reason, outdoor activities, which may be otherwise difficult during extreme heat, are often suggested.
Paphos Archaeological Park
The coastal area where Coral Bay is situated is called Paphos. Paphos has significant historical value as the birthplace of the Greek mythological goddess, Aphrodite. The Paphos Archaeological Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the 1980s and offers sites dating back to prehistoric times. However, most of the sites here are from the Roman period. The park is home to many significant monuments, such as the "Tombs of the Kings", the "Saranta Kolones" (Forty Columns) Fortress and the "Limeniotissa" Ruins of early Christian Basilica. The entrance fee is just 4.50 and the park's winter hours are 8.30 - 17.00 (16th September 15th April).
King of Tombs
The King of Tombs monument is an amazing archeological site and for that reason is one of the park's most famous attractions. Despite its name, no kings were actually buried at this site. However, you're welcome to see the tombs of high ranking officials which date back to the 4th century BC. It is highly recommended to listen to an audio guide, such as this one found on the country's tourism website, in order to fully appreciate the historical context of the site you are visiting.
Ancient Odeon
Also within the same park is the Ancient Odeon. This is a massive structure made entirely from limestone blocks. The Odeon occasionally holds theatre and musical events. Near this site, one can see the remains of ancient Roman city walls. February's mild weather makes this the perfect time of year to get lost in ancient ruins!
