The marathon has gradually increased in popularity and is attracting more and more foreign athletes.
There are a number of tourist attractions one should visit in October when there aren't many tourists. The Kelaniya temple is one of them. It is believed that the Buddha once travelled to the famous temple to settle an argument between two leaders. The temple is now famous for its magnificent sculptures and paintings.
People interested in architecture should visit the Fort railway station to see traditional British-Indian architecture.
October is also a brilliant month for tourists to visit the local market. The market is relatively calm as it is low season and tourists will find it easier to interact with people and learn more about the Sri Lankan culture.
