October is the last official month in the Caribbean's hurricane season.  Hurricanes are not highly likely to strike the Bahamas during this time but always err on the side of caution.  Take extra time creating alternative plans if you cruise is sidetracked by a hurricane.  During October, Coco Cay receives an average of 182 mm of rainfall.  On the days that it isn't raining, an anticipated seven hours of sunshine warm the island.  The average temperature is 26 degrees Celsius on any given day.  Impacting that estimate, the low temperature can be 22 degrees and the high can be 30 degrees Celsius.

On October 12th, Columbus Day, also known as Hero's Day, is celebrated.  Largely only celebrated in nearby Nassau, this holiday honors the heroes in the nation's and region's past.

For a lavish, long cruise, the 13 Night Transatlantic Cruise is an once-in-a-lifetime trip.  Departing from Barcelona, Spain, the ship travels across the Atlantic Ocean for eight days before reaching the Caribbean.  If you can keep busy on the ship during that time, you'll then be treated to day-long stops in St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, Coco Cay and ending in Fort Lauderdale.

For a day excursion to enjoy the seas while in Coco Cay, a fun option is snorkeling.  Professional instruction is provided before you start kicking through the turquoise waters.  The instructors also provide information on the professional equipment you'll be using and the wildlife you may see.
