Chesterfield, England<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Chesterfield sits in a borough Derbyshire just beyond the border of Englandâs Peak District national park. Itâs just north of what would be the dead centre of the country and is only a 25 minute drive down the A61 from the city of Sheffield.
Chesterfield sports many pieces of classic Victorian and pre-war architecture including one of the largest open-air markets in Britain and The Pomegranate Theatre.
Chesterfield is most known for its crooked spire. Built in the 14th century, the spire twists around and is a notable attraction for holiday goers. The spire is open to the public and the view from the top shows the entire town. Itâs also the birthplace of actor John Hurt CBE.
Summer
The forecast for summer in Chesterfield tends to start off at a brisk 13°C (55°F) in June, but manages to pull its socks up a little towards August by reaching 16°C (60°F). The 86% humidity will seem warm the day further. This humidity drops down to 60% in the evening and ensures that you wonât need a jacket on a stroll through the night-time town.
Chesterfieldâs rainy season carries on until the summer, capping averages of 70mm in June, but fortunately that eases down to a 45mm drizzle.
Holidays in Chesterfield donât enjoy much direct sun when compared to the likes of Plymouth and Brighton, but it is the north, so it should be expected. Thatâs not to say itâs nocturnal. Chesterfield receives around 6 hours of sun per day; thatâs plenty of time to have a trek around town.
Winter
Winter follows autumn fast and sets up shop immediately. The cold sets in at 4°C (39°F) in December and it only gets colder. Thankfully not much colder, as the average temperature in February is only 3°C (37°F). The humidity means that the winter is here to stay as it starts the day at 87% and only drops down to 79%.
As you can imagine, Chesterfield is subject to a refreshing amount of snow with the town receiving anything from 14 to 18 days of it for the whole season. Thatâs ample time to play around in the snow and enjoy the way it makes everything look pristine, then itâs gone before it becomes a nuisance.
As if the snow wasnât enough, winter in Chesterfield also receives rainfall that kicks off at 85mm before dropping to 70mm.
If you like the sunshine, you may want to go out and see it while it lasts! Chesterfield gets only an hour and three quarters of direct sunlight a day during this season.
Spring/Autumn
Spring and autumn both transmute into their neighbouring seasons (summer and winter) very quickly without having the time to come into their own. Spring relieves winter at 5°C (41°F) and after the 60mm of rainfall the season receives on average and the odd bout of snow (7 to 9 days), it starts the summer off at a low 10°C (50°F) with 50mm of rain. The spring sees the humidity at its most fluid too, starting the day nicely at 85% before leaving the holiday-makers with only 60% worth to cool the evening. 5 hours of sunlight per day for the rain season makes the chance of a rainbow all the more likely.
Like spring, autumn starts the leaves falling at a nice 12°C (53°F) and boots the rainfall up from the summerâs 45mm to 65mm, showing the town that winterâs coming early. The humidity is not as temperamental as spring and summer, starting off at 89% and ending the day 72%. The resort gets dark pretty early too as the days begin to dwindle after only 3 hours of direct sunlight.
The autumn fast becomes winter, finishing off at 6°C (42°F) with 75mm of rain and the unlikely (but not impossible) chance of snow, with an average of 1 day of the season being snowy.
