Cayo Guillermo, Cuba, is located in the southern Caribbean and enjoys the same warm weather as the Caribbean islands all year round. Although officially a part of Cuba, Cayo Guillermo is located off the northern coast of the country, on the island chain known as the Jardines del Rey. It is a popular resort with many activities, entertainments, bars and restaurants.
The weather in Cayo Guillermo is similar to Guardalavaca on the mainland, just south along the coastline. That is, high temperatures of 23 to 32 degrees Celsius and heavy rainfall of around 160 mm which will continue to steadily increase until October which is usually the wettest month in the resort. Sea temperatures remain high at around 29 degrees Celsius on average.
A quick trip to the mainland will have travellers in the city of Morón, where the 'real' Cuba can be explored. Towards the east of the city centre is the Patria Sugar Mill which is open for visitors to tour. Although the main harvest season doesn't begin until the drier winter months, the sugar mill acts as a museum during the rest of the year, and the steam trains used for harvesting can be ridden for tourism and sightseeing purposes.
The Guillermo Restaurant, located inside the Iberostar Daiquiri hotel, serves up international cuisine with a particular focus on Caribbean specialities. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is buffet style with an informal atmosphere that's suitable for all the family. All tastes and preferences are catered for, with a variety of dishes that appeal to all travellers.
The Meliá Cayo Santa Maria is located in Villa Clara on the neighbouring island to the north, with spectacular views over the Cayo Guillermo beachfront, pier and marina. Rooms cost from £117 per night and are situated close to the hotel's gardens and private beach. The hotel has three swimming pools and is welcoming of families with small children.
