The island of Cayo Guillermo, Cuba, situated along the Jardines del Rey island chain off the north coast, is a quiet and serene place with little that needs to be done other than relax on the white beaches or in the blue ocean. However, the hotel complexes on the island are different, with never ending activities, entertainments and attractions for the whole family.
Cayo Guillermo experiences June weather similar to that in Gueiba, Villa Clara. Temperatures edge towards the high mid summer heats, reaching 32 degrees Celsius in the day and dropping to 23 degrees overnight, while sea temperatures remain roughly the same as the previous months. Cayo Guillermo tends to experience rather wet summer months, and heavy rainfall of 160 mm is expected at the time of year.
A great way to relax and get your skin ready for the summer is to book a trip to the AcuaVida Spa in Cayo Coco just along the coastline. There are seawater pools and saunas for health and rejuvenation, as well as massages, facials, manicures and pedicures for relaxation. If you'd rather stay in the Cayo Guillermo centre, all hotels offer massage services which can be undertaken in room or by the pool depending on preference.
In the evenings, spend some time at the El Cubanito cocktail bar at the Sol Cayo Guillermo hotel. Although a huge range of cocktails are on offer here, the focus is really on Cuban and Caribbean rums, and rum-based cocktails such as mojitos. It's a popular place for a relaxing drink and to meet up with friends after a busy day. The only downside is that this bar closes quite early, around 10 pm.
For utter luxury, book a room at the 4* Sol Cayo Santa Maria on the neighbouring island which commands spectacular views over the Cayo Guillermo island. Rooms cost from £101 per night all-inclusive and feature private balconies or terraces, air conditioning, minibars and ensuite facilities. Families are particularly welcome, with babysitting services and kid's clubs throughout the complex.
