Things to do in Cayo Coco in September
For a change of pace from the beaches and sand, take a trip to Ciego de Avila, about an hour and a half's drive from the resort strip on Cayo Coco. In Ciego de Avila, a very old and historic town, you can tour the city's main attraction, enjoy an authentic lunch at a locally run ranchon and even visit a nearby cigar factory for a fantastic sightseeing tour of a different kind. You could organise this trip as a guided tour from the resort or, for a more relaxing option, simply arrange for a taxi to take you to Avila in the morning and bring you back in the afternoon. This should not cost more than 150CUC.
For an incredible full-day adventure then you should consider heading out to Trinidad, a charming colonial town about 230km from Cayo Coco. Yes, this certainly makes for a FULL day trip, yet when you consider that you'll spend much of your vacation time relaxing by the sparkling beaches of your resort, taking an active day off can be a wonderful alternative. Trinidad is UNESCO heritage listed and home to the country's most prominent church, the Iglesia de la Santissima Trinidad, as well as one of its largest markets held in the town's old city centre.
