For a rustic stay, opt for the Hotel Colonial Cayo Coco instead, which has been recently refurbished and designed in stunning colonial style. This place is simply divine and ideal for those who wish to stay in a smaller yet more charming place. The cobblestone paths, however, may not make it ideal for those with diminished mobility, so do keep that in mind. Don't let the 'smaller' tag put you off however, the Hotel Colonial still boasts over 400 rooms and 11 restaurants and bars in total.

Things to do in Cayo Coco in December
The world is your Cuban oyster in December, as this is the time of year where everything is on offer. This entire region is a scuba diver's paradise, and at this time of year brilliant dives are possible every single day, due to the lack of heavy rains. If you prefer to stay on the surface of the water, do note that Cayo Coco is home to an incredibly revered coral reef, which is brimming with colourful and endemic coral and fish; getting the most out of it whilst snorkelling is also extremely rewarding, as the visibility in December is top notch. Those who are really adamant not to get wet can enjoy a leisurely afternoon aboard a glass-bottom boat instead.
Although this is a natural playground for the most part, history and culture fans can also get a hit of their favoured past-time. Daily sightseeing trips to nearby cities can be arranged, where you can be guided on an enlightening tour of an old colonial hub, as well as a cigar making factory, crocodile farm and more.
