Weather lowdown

If you are looking for slightly less in the way of heat, but still more than enough sunshine, warm temperatures, and less in the way of crowds, then September is a wonderful time to visit Calis Beach. The average temperature sits at a very warm 24°C, but can reach as high as 30°C during the hottest part of the day; again, the odd heat wave can cause temperatures to be higher, but this is more likely during the first part of the month.

Evening low temperatures are still very mild, sitting at an average of around 18°C, meaning you may still be needing air conditioning in your hotel to enjoy a better night's sleep despite that, you will notice the evening temperatures becoming cooler towards the end of the month, as we move into October and the autumn season.

Whilst sunshine hours are certainly still very plentiful at this time of year, as they generally are all year around, with an average of 11 hours of sunshine during the month, the trend is towards slightly more unsettled weather in terms of rain. Whilst this month doesn't experience much in the way of precipitation, it can experience around 25mm across the month this is likely to be very short-lived and will leave behind refreshed conditions, and blue skies.

Beach time is still high on the agenda during this time of year, and the average water temperature sits at a very mild 26°C, with the Mediterranean maintaining its warmth for the summer season. There are many water-sports to enjoy at this time of year, as well as boat trips which generally stop for swim breaks, so you can cool down from the still quite high temperatures this part of Turkey experiences during the summer months.

Where to stay

The final official month of the summer season and there is still plenty in the way of places to stay in the resort. September still means high temperatures, so your requirements for your accommodation will be similar to those couple of months beforehand. Rebin Beach Hotel is set in beautiful gardens all around the main pool, offering shade from the intense afternoon heat. Choose from B&B or half board, located just 250m from the beach, however it is around 5km from the main resort, so you are set in total peace and serenity by choosing this hotel.

Alternatively, if you want somewhere a little more central, then Pelin Hotel is a great choice. This is also B&B or half board, and is walking distance to everything, with both and indoor and outdoor restaurants, and a terrace with a stunning view.

Delta Hotel is a B&B which is located between the two resorts, serving lunch and dinner in the on-site restaurant, with a bar open for refreshments throughout the day and evening. Wi-Fi is available in public areas around the hotel, and this offers a particularly budget and comfortable base for those wanting to keep an eye on their cash-flow.

What to do

Summer is still very much in full swing during September, and that means plenty of tourism opportunities to take part in. If you want to enjoy nature and do something a little different, head to Desperado Horse Ranch, where you can try horse riding for the first time, or perhaps head off on a pony trek if you are a little more experienced. This is a great day out for the family, as well as for couples who want to experience something new together.

Shopping during the warm evenings this time of year brings is a great way to grab some bargains without getting stressed due to crowds and high temperatures! If you are in the Fethiye area on a visit from Calis Beach, which is just ten minutes away from local dolmus bus, then check out Old Orient Carpet & Kilim Bazaar. Turkish hand-woven carpets are amongst some of the best in the world, and the prices are certainly competitive, with shipping back to home if you purchase a large carpet.

If you're stuck for ideas on how to keep the kids occupied before or after dinner, check out Arena Go Kart for a competitive few hours spent racing around the track. This is a cheap activity to enjoy, and one which you won't need to pre-book at this time of year.

Hit the beach

If you're looking for the ideal way to enjoy a natural beach setting, without major crowds, then Gemila Bay is for you. If you're a keen snorkelling enthusiast, make sure you take your gear with you, as this area is rich in marine life, and the visibility is fantastic.

For simply kicking back and relaxing on the beach however, this is also a great setting. You'll find a few cafes and restaurants to help your day run smoothly, however this sandy beach is about nature and relaxation with a capital R.

Restaurants & nightlife

Crowds will be slightly less in September, so evenings will be a little more laid-back as a result. Try Ambar Pide for a snack on your way back to your hotel at the end of the night. Pide is a kind of flat bread dish, which has many different toppings to choose from; almost like a pizza, this is something the kids will love.

Alternatively, Baba Firin & Daddy's Bakehouse is your ideal bakery, with fresh bread, scones, and delicious cakes as a treat during your holiday.

If you do want to try some authentic cuisine, then give Sini Restaurant a go. Turkish food is hearty and flavoursome, and you will be given meze beforehand, so you will certainly come away very full indeed!
