Weather lowdown
For those looking for a cheaper holiday, the school half-term holiday is a great choice. There are no worries generally about weather at this time of year, because Calis Beach still experiences an average temperature of 20°C, which reaches an average high of up to 25°C during the warmer times of the day. This all adds up to the perfect conditions for a family holiday, as the heat isn't too much, and the evening temperatures are cool enough for everyone to enjoy a better night's sleep, with the average low falling to a pleasant 14°C. Crowds are also likely to be less during this time too.
The downside to visiting during this final month of the traditional summer season in the resort is that there can be a little more in the way of rain, although certainly not torrential. We generally class October as being within the autumn bracket, however the summer tourism season in terms of business runs to the final week of the season before closing for the winter months, until April/May the following year. This time of year experiences an average of around 29mm of rain throughout the month, which can affect 5 days to some degree. You will get fair warning of any rain which is coming, so simply keep your ear to the ground locals will be more than happy to keep you informed on the weather forecast!
Despite the possibility of a rain shower, you can expect around 10 hours of sunshine per day on average, which is certainly more than enough to enjoy a day around the pool or on the beach, returning home with an envious tan. The average sea temperature sits at a very pleasant 24°C, which is ideal for beach day fun, and conditions at this time of year are still fantastic for diving and snorkelling.
Where to stay
October is the final month of the summer season in Calis Beach, and towards the end of the month you will notice a little less in the way of accommodation choices; this shouldn't put you off visiting at this time however, as there are still plenty of options available.
Cenk Bey Hotel is ideal for families, offering a half board basis, with a large swimming pool, playground, bar, and restaurant. This is fantastic for relaxation despite the family fun vibe, with lots of activities and entertainment options.
Area Hotel offers an equally relaxing half board or B&B holiday, which is situated right on the beach front. Ten rooms are family rooms, which is a great choice for families with smaller children in two, and all offer a comfortable and spacious environment.
Club Turkuaz Garden is set in beautiful gardens, giving you a serene base for your stay. Situated just 500m from the beach and the main night-life, you can choose half board and enjoy the plentiful dishes served in the on-site restaurant. There is a large playground for children, as well as an outdoor pool, volleyball, and tennis courts.
What to do
The final month of the summer tourism season begins as October arrives, but the still very mild weather means there is plenty to see and do, especially if you're keen to get out of the resort itself an explore. One very popular trip no matter what the month, however much better now the major heat of July and August has subsided, is to head to the Dalyan Mud Baths.
You will find tour companies, such as Fethiye Tours, which will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the baths, with a tour down the Dalyan River and a few hours at Turtle Beach too. The mud baths themselves have reputed health benefits, however the bottom line is that they are simply great fun, and a photo of your party caked in mud is a must do!
On this tour you will pass the ancient Lycian settlement of Pinara. Pinara Antique City is a great place to visit as a stand-alone trip, because exploring it in detail is a must. History buffs will love this site, and the story behind it is a must learn. You will see intricate tombs carved into the mountain rocks, with a beautiful view of the Xanthos Valley. This site dates back to the 5th century BC, and is one of the most popular places to visit in the area.
Fishing is a popular activity amongst locals during the quieter times of the year, and heading out into the open water and having a go at this sport is a great activity to try. Get Up & Go Tours offer fishing trips, which are a great way for beginners to have a go. You will be given lunch on-board your boat, with hotel pick up and transfer in with the price. Barracuda, amberjack, and tuna are all common in the waters around the resort.
Restaurants & nightlife
October is the final month of the season and sees restaurants closing towards the middle of the month, however many do choose to stay open until the very end. Meeting Point Restaurant is a laid-back choice, which is very popular amongst return visitors. Again, a huge menu awaits you, so another good choice for those travelling with children.
The Pines is famous for its large English breakfasts and Sunday roasts. It may be a good idea to book your table for Sunday early evening during the particularly busy times, however mid-month you shouldn't have too much of a problem.
ADA Restaurant is a very special restaurant indeed. If you have a special occasion, such as an anniversary or a birthday then breakfast here has the perfect view. Try a traditional Turkish breakfast and you will certainly be full for the rest of the day, with all manner of cheeses, breads, jams, fruits, olives, and meats to try. This restaurant is located just outside of the town centre but is easy to get to via the local dolmus bus service.
