Weather lowdown
June is a wonderful time to visit the south coast resorts of Turkey, with plenty to see and do, wonderful weather, less in the way of crowds, and cheaper deals to be had before the following two months of July and August, which will have much higher temperatures and a busier atmosphere, as well as higher holiday prices as a result of all this.
During this time of year Calis Beach is certainly hotting up, with an average temperature of around 25°C, which during the particular hotter times of the month, can rise as far as 30°C too. Despite this fact, there is generally a breeze most of the time, which tends to cool down proceedings a little, making the heat a little more comfortable, and a tan a certainty.
Whilst day times are getting much warmer, the same can be said for the evenings, and the average low temperature at this time of year is a very mild 19°C, making those evenings out much more pleasant than the previous few months. On top of this, you're not likely to see any rain now summer is in full swing, and the average precipitation rate for this time of year stands at a very lowly 1mm throughout the month on average, which will only affect 1 day to the tiniest amount, probably completely unnoticeable.
Sunshine is plentiful, at an average of 13 hours per day, and beach time is certainly on the agenda, with an average water temperature of a very warm 23°C, making the plentiful water-sports on offer a fantastic way to spend your time now that summer is in full swing. Before the searing temperatures hit, visiting the nearby resorts, such as Fethiye and Olu Deniz, is a must do for a different take on the area, and equally as fantastic weather.
Where to stay
June is now summer, and summer means plentiful choice when it comes to places to stay, with many different board basis' on offer too. Anna Aparthotel gives you a room only option, set in picturesque gardens. This is a small, family run hotel which is perfect for couples and families. There is a large swimming pool on-site, great for cooling down in the high temperatures now summer is in full swing, and the hotel is only 400m from the centre of the resort.
Hotel Kerim gives you a B&B or half board option, and the family rooms are perfect for those travelling with younger children. The restaurant offers a range of different dishes, including traditional Turkish food, and the large swimming pool has a dedicated children's section. Turkish nights are plentiful during the summer months, which are always great to experience.
Alternatively, Manas Park Calis offers a beachfront choice of accommodation, with plentiful attractions and entertainment nearby. This is a comfortable and homely base, offering a B&B board basis.
What to do
This particular part of Turkey is packed with things to see and do during the summer months, and visiting during the month of June will give you plenty of entertainment options. Head to nearby Olu Deniz on the bus service and take part in one of the most popular and iconic sporting activities in the region paragliding.
Olu Deniz is famed for its stunning aerial views, and SkySports Paragliding are a great company to try for the first time, with instructors on hand to ease any worries. The views from up there are simply amazing, and this is an experience you won't forget in a hurry.
If you want a spot of fun in the increasingly warm sun, then a wet n wild safari is for you. This is a great excursion to try if you have kids in tow, because not only do you get to check out the beautiful scenery around the area, but you also get to have fun in the process the clue is in the title! Animal Excursions offer all manner of trips around the area, with this particular safari one of the most popular.
If all that fun in the sun leaves you wanting something a little more serene, then you need to be heading to the beautiful Butterfly Valley. Here you will find walking trails, beautiful waterfalls, and all manner of different types of wildlife to spot and explore. The views across the bay are stunning. There is a small charge to get into this park, but again, it is more than worth it.
Hit the beach
Calis Beach's main pull is obviously the beach. A quieter, more laid-back vibe will meet you here compared to lively Fethiye, and this is ideal for a day relaxing. The sand is dark shingle, and the beach itself is 4km long, which means it's unlikely to get crowded.
You'll find plentiful watersports here, however the constant breeze means that kite-surfing and windsurfing are two very popular activities to watch and enjoy. Alternatively, there are many bars and restaurants lining the beach promenade, so you can enjoy a few drinks whilst you sunbathe.
Restaurants & nightlife
Less crowds in June means you can easily enjoy your evening without being too packed into a bar. If you want to try traditional Turkish food for the first time then head to Rosemary's Restaurant, which is a laid-back establishment, giving you the chance to try a few dishes without feeling too 'out of it'.
Mangal Restaurant is another place to give a few dishes a try perhaps try lahmacun if you're a pizza lover, as this is a Turkish version of the traditional Italian favourite.
Onur Beach Café is a hidden gem to discover, situated right on the beach with a fantastic setting to enjoy. Again, Turkish food is available here, as well as European dishes if you fancy something a little more familiar.
