Weather lowdown
Spring has certainly sprung as April arrives, and you can expect more in the way of sunshine, less rain, and higher temperatures as the month progresses towards the beginning of summer.
Calis Beach is a beautiful destination at this time of year, and experiences an average temperature of 15°C, which rises up to the 20°C mark as an average high during the warmer times of the day certainly t-shirt weather, and enough to get a tan during the warmer days. However, you will notice a drop in temperature as the sun goes down, as the average low drops to a chilly 10°C mark towards the early evening - simply remember a jacket for those evening walks.
One thing you will notice is that the amount of rain the resort experiences throughout the month is much reduced, and you can expect an average precipitation level of just 15mm, which only affects 7 days to some degree or another. As the coming months arrive, this level will continue to drop down to the virtually non-existent mark, leaving endless summer weather. Sunshine hours are also on the up, and you can expect a wonderful 11 hours of bright sunshine to enjoy, with blue skies to accompany it most of the time.
If you're wanting early beach time, then the average sea temperature is still rather chilly at around 17°C on average, but if you are considering diving then this is possible, as you will have a wetsuit to keep you warm! Towards the end of the month however you will notice a warmer sea as a result of summer arriving around the corner.
Where to stay
April is the ideal time to grab a cheap deal, with wonderfully warm weather and many sunny days. Tourism will slowly begin to show signs of opening up as the month progresses and the number of accommodation choices reflects this. Not to mention the prices are lower now, before the main season begins, so this is a good time to visit.
Fethiye Sunset Beach Club is located between the two resorts, and offers a room only option, which feels very much like a holiday village, with everything you need on hand. The rooms are fitted with a kitchen and private balcony, LCD TV and Wi-Fi in the rooms. There is an on-site restaurant if you don't feel like cooking, and a large pool, perfect for a dip.
Alternatively, another large hotel choice is Jiva Beach Resort. This is an all-inclusive option, which is great for those travelling with children. A relatively new hotel, established in 2012, it is situated right on the beach, with perfect access to those amazing sunsets. The outdoor pool has a children's section, as well as a kid's club.
If you want a self-catering or B&B option, check out Blue and Green Apartments. The large swimming pool is its centre-point, as well as the beautiful landscaped gardens. The apartments are located just 300m from the beach, and are close to everything you could need.
What to do
Warmer temperatures and a quiet atmosphere makes this the ideal time to truly experience the surrounding area in and around Calis Beach. One fantastic idea is to visit the nearby Greek island of Rhodes. Hydrofoils visit the island from Fethiye Harbour on a daily basis at this time of year, and you can either book your own ticket, or go via an organised excursion, depending on your preferences.
The Old Town is the most popular part of Rhodes Town itself, with a stunning castle, and many small stalls to explore. Take lunch in a traditional Greek taverna, before walking through to the new part of the city, where you will find large named high street stores and restaurants which are more main-stream. Visiting Rhodes is a long day, but it is certainly one which is worth it. Remember to take your passport with you when you go!
Whilst you're out and about exploring, check out the natural wonder of Pamukkale. Again, many tour operators will head here now the tourism season is on the horizon, and this is a particularly good time of the year to go, because the heat can be a little overbearing during the peaks months of July and August. Check out Seaside Tours for different excursions to the area.
Pamukkale is a natural thermal bath, who's name translates as Cotton Castle. The water which flows through this area is thought to have health benefits, especially for those with joint problems, such as rheumatism.
Getting active is good at this time of year also, because of the slightly lower, but still very mild temperatures. Canoeing through Patara National Park is a great way to experience nature and wildlife, and your expert guide will give you tuition and safety advice before you go. See if you can spot a river turtle or flying fish in the Xanthos River. Check out Patara Canoeing for excursions.
Restaurants & nightlife
You will find many more hotels opening up in April, and we know Calis Beach is set within natural surroundings, so it makes sense that many restaurants have that same vibe. Melodi Bar & Restaurant is set almost within a forest, and the food here is divine. You can choose from European or traditional Turkish dishes. EJ's Café is situated right on the beach, and you can't get more natural than that! This British run café is famed for its fantastic customer service, and large menu.
Check out Barbella Restaurant too, as you will find something for everyone, including Asian fusion food, traditional Turkish dishes, Italian food, and plenty of British options. The cakes here are also amazing, so make sure you save some room for dessert.
