What's the weather like in Calahonda in December
Temperature
As the year comes to an end Calahonda is still experiencing more good days than bad. Average temperatures of 10°C are significantly milder than many other parts of Europe at this time. And with average highs reaching up to 14°C there is still plenty of mild weather about.
In recent history, Calahonda has experienced some very good weather in December, illustrating why so many Brits choose to move to this part of the Costa del Sol on a permanent basis. Record temperatures of close to 24.5°C registered in the region in 1998. While the coldest temperature ever recorded in Calahonda of 0°C in 1993 ensures the chances of frost are practically nil.
Sea Temperature
For those that chose to have a Christmas swim in Calahonda, sea temperatures of 16°C will make the water feel very fresh. However, it is still far warmer than areas such as Torquay in England where a Christmas Day dip has become a tradition. Or in areas such as Nice in the South of France.
Rainfall and Sunshine Hours
Following the wettest month of the year in November, December does offer some respite, with only a 24% chance of rain on any one day. This ensures that three out of every four days are usually dry. And with an average of 7 sunshine hours every day, this is a beautiful time to visit the resort. Even if it does rain during December in Calahonda, the expected 114mm of precipitation over the entire month means that it won't rain for very long.
Wind
Only a 3% chance of a windy day, even on the coast in December, the weather is still beautiful.
Humidity
During the night time, Calahonda can feel significantly cooler than it does in the warmer summer months of June, July and August. Average night time temperatures will usually fall to 6°C. And while this means there is no problem with humidity in the area during the month, it does mean that any accommodation should offer some form of heating, or at least the option of an extra blanket.

Christmas Day is not such an event in Calahonda as it is in the UK, mainly because presents are given on the 6th January rather than the 25th December. But December 24th, Christmas Eve, is a festival that all visitors should participate in. The celebrations start with a very traditional, large feast. Fresh seafood is usually served as a starter, followed by suckling pig or roast lamb, and finished with a plate of sweets and cakes. Following the feast many families will attend midnight mass in one of the many wonderfully decorated churches in the region. After the prayers, the party starts with the streets filled with revellers. Follow the crowds and enjoy the celebrations. Everyone is welcome at Christmas.
