Cala Galdana, Spain<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Cala Galdana has everything from the light blue Mediterranean to the grass-covered, white rock bay that youâd expect of a Spanish holiday.
Situated on the island of Minorca (Majorcaâs smaller cousin) off the coast of Spain, beach lovers will adore Cala Galdana for its sun and sand while culturists will want to visit the resort for its history which spans mayonnaise and vestigial structures made by prehistoric man.
Cala Galdana enjoys tanning summers and winters that make a great escape from the freezing temperatures of home.
Summer
Cala Galdanaâs summer holiday weather tends to pick a temperature and stay there with very little fluctuation. The high ends of the summer forecast can be clocked anywhere around 25°C (77°F) to 28°C (82°C) and the lows are a refreshing 17°C (63°F) to 20°C (68°F).
A holiday to Cala Galdana in the summer season can also promise 15 hour long days with at least 10 hours of direct sunlight, plenty of time to get an impressionable tan.
On average it rains 2-5 days a month in the summer and only lays down 17-27mm of the stuff. As you can imagine this makes the humidity fairly low in Cala Galdana as, due to the scarcity of rain, there wonât be any moisture to be in the air. Look forward to a clear blue sky.
Any smart holiday maker should know that the entire Mediterranean has a very high UV index level during the summer and Cala Galdana follows that trend. The index can measure anywhere from 7-9 which means too much direct contact can be hazardous to your health. Luckily thereâs plenty of shade in the form of shops, restaurants and caf©âs to keep you preoccupied for those extra hot days. The Cala Mitjana is one of the resortâs best ranked restaurants in terms of both quality and price as approved by tourists, so itâs worth a look in.
If you fancy a plunge in the sea youâll be delighted to know that the temperature rates around 21°C (70°F) to 25°C (77F), so you wonât need to tip-toe in like you would with, oh, say the North Sea.
Winter
If youâre sick of slipping on the ice and want a week where you donât have to wait for the de-icer to work on the windscreen every morning, Cala Galdana has just the right climate for a winter holiday.
The temperature can range from maximums of 14°C (57°F) to 15°C (59°F) which isnât much of a fluctuation, but at least you know where you stand. The same goes for the minimums of 7°C (45°F) and 8°C (46°F).
The days are still pretty long in the winter with 9-11 hours of light per day (Dec-March) and 4-5 of them having the full sun over it.
As expected, it does rain a bit more in winter. Over 7-8 days a month holiday makers can expect 80mm at the start of the season and fade down to 55mm in the March, just in time for the main holiday season.
Due to the extra moisture in the air brought about by the rain, Cala Galdana can be colder than the average temperature forecast and can occasionally be a tad frosty on some of the colder days.
On the bright side its fine to go out and stay out all day as the UV level lingers around 2, which translates as âLowâ.
If you feel the necessity to go for a dip, itâs best to know that the sea temperature ranges around 14°C (57°F) to 16°C (61°F), so best to get those muscles working and youâll soon warm up.
