August is extremely hot and busy in Cairo.
The average temperature now reaches a high of 34°C (that's about 93°F) during the day and at night never goes any lower than 22°C (about 72°F).
You can expect no rain during this month and there is a massive 13 hours of average daily sunshine.
Cairo is steeped in the history of Ancient Egypt with remarkably preserved buildings and monuments.
You can take an overnight trip to Luxor to visit the Valley of the Kings. This is where many pharaohs and nobles were buried in around the 16th to 11th century BC.
There are over sixty tombs located within the valley, as well as the nearby Valley of the Queens and the West and East Valleys.
Most famous of the tombs is that of King Tutankhamun. Discovered in 1922, this is perhaps the best preserved of all the tombs in the valley and contained a vast amount of gold and other treasures.
The tomb is open on a daily basis though it is subject to a separate entrance fee than the rest of the valley. The tomb may also at times be closed to the public due to restoration work, so please check ahead before you travel.
