The Baja Peninsula along the west coast of Mexico is a world of diverse landscapes, from hot rugged deserts to wide green valleys and ocean waters reflecting a myriad of brilliant blue hues. At the peninsula's tip. Cabo San Lucas attracts travellers looking for unparalleled relaxation, world-class golf and a host of watersports in agreeable weather all year long.

Unlike many other vacation destinations in Mexico, Cabo San Lucas doesn't have the typical tropical mix of sunshine, rain and humidity. The area enjoys a unique sub-tropical climate, with the aridity of a desert blending with cool ocean breezes. Low humidity levels offer visitors a warm and relaxed getaway experience.

Cabo San Lucas has a typical arid desert climate, averaging over 350 days of sunshine a year. Unlike many other vacation destinations in Mexico, Cabo San Lucas does not enclose the classic tropical climate of sunshine, rain and humidity.

The evenings will however cool off significantly, so when travelling to the area, baggage should still contain a light jacket or sweater, particularly in the winter months. Temperatures should be expected to be about 10°C cooler on the Pacific side of the straight than on the Sea of Cortez side.

This region of Mexico is authentic paradise, with its hot deserts, cool, warm breezed oceans and waters reflecting several different shades of blues and greens. Cabo San Lucas attracts travellers looking for relaxation, water sports and golf in its near year-long perfect weather.

Summer weather in Cabo San Lucas

Summer weather stretches across eight months, starting in mid-March and concluding around mid-November. July tends to be the hottest month of the year in Cabo San Lucas with average highs of around 35°C. In the low season from May to September, temperatures go up to 38°C and higher during the day, hovering in the upper 20s and low 30s in the evening.

Cabo San Lucas is blessed with near-perfect weather. Near perfect, because in summers it can get a little too warm for travellers not accustomed to the heat and you'll even catch locals complaining about the temperatures.

Those who live in desert climates such as the U.S. southwest will actually consider the region cool. Those from northwest or mountain states will be apt to feel the heat more acutely. If you're used to muggy summers in the east or south regions of the United States, you will welcome the dry heat.

While summer days are often hot, winters are cooler and evening temperatures drop off significantly all year long. Pack a light jacket or a sweater. You'll surely need them during the cooler months and on brisk nights in the warmer season. It's also a good idea to dress in accordance with the side of the peninsula you visit.

Expect temperatures that are around 10°C cooler on the western Pacific coast than on eastern Sea of Cortez shores.

When the storms pass by a heavy downpour of rain will often take place, this again will overpass the straight quickly and carry out to the ocean. Average annual rainfall is 25.4cm, most of which occurring during the months of September and October.

The climate in Cabo San Lucas features hot, sunny weather throughout the majority of the year, with only slight variations in temperature, month by month, influenced by the city's coastal setting and nearby mountain range.

Spring and Winter Weather in Cabo San Lucas

During peak tourist season from October to April, the temperature is typically around 27°C during the day and falls to around 16°C at night. 

January is the coldest month but still offers comfortable 23°C days. While the temperature only drops a maximum of four degrees in the nights, evenings can feel much cooler with breezes that blow in from the mountains and seas.

The average year-round water temperature in the Sea of Cortez is 23°C. During the summer months, the water temperature can reach the mid-20s. 

If you're planning a trip to Cabo San Lucas, you probably don't need to check the weather forecast as you can count on warm weather with sun, sun and more sun. The resort has an arid desert climate with an average of more than 350 days of sunshine a year.

Extreme Weather

Throughout the year, there are chances of occasional storms, which are generally mild and pass overnight. From June to October, Cabo San Lucas is affected by the Pacific hurricane season. Infrequent tropical cyclones and hurricanes are rarely intense enough to cause serious damage and usually pass to the south of the peninsula. When Cabo San Lucas does get hit with heavy downpours, the deluges are often brief and quickly and carry out to the ocean.
