Things to do in Brisbane in August

Kurilpa Bridge

The Kurilpa Bridge in Brisbane connects you to the city's famous art galleries, library, and museums. This pedestrian and bike-only bridge has numerous stop-by points for you to lean over and take some great pictures of the lovely river and surrounding city. This cleverly engineered bridge has a great architecture and is Brisbane's premier location for scootering. A great way of getting from the CBD to South Brisbane, Kurilpa Bridge is an interesting piece of architecture offering great views up and down the Brisbane River, with interpretive information about the indigenous history of that part of Brisbane. Make sure you take this bridge at least one way and you will have something worth remembering.

Queensland Maritime Museum

Located on the southern bank of the Brisbane River just south of the South Bank Parklands and Queensland Cultural Centre precinct of Brisbane, and close to the Goodwill Bridge, the Queensland Maritime Museum is set on Stanley Street in Brisbane. A great place for kids and everyone in the family, the museum offers a lot of hands-on exhibits and touches on maritime history going back centuries. The Queensland Maritime Museum is mainly appointed to maritime history but they have a couple of interesting vessels as well.

Bowen Park

Bowen Park is a heritage-listed Park is a glorious park right opposite the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. The trees in this park are well-established and paths wind through tropical foliage, remaining a peaceful little retreat on the corner of O'Connell Terrace and Bowen Bridge Road in Bowen Hills. Great for history buffs, this is a wonderful attraction to add to your day at the Southbank Parklands, is well maintained and houses plenty of historical facts to entertain and educate. Overall, this is a nice little place for a few hours of relaxing and wandering about, and provides easy access via train/ ferry or bus and car.
