Known as one of the most fortified towns in France, Briancon features a year round temperate climate with cold winters and warm summers. Briancon is located at the foundation of five separate valleys and 10km from the border of Italy. Briancon experiences a remarkably sunny and dry type of weather as the town boasts over 300 days of sunshine each year. This is mainly because of its situation at a high altitude of 1850m above sea level and in actual fact is the highest town in Europe. With its sunny climate, dry air and high altitude Briancon is the ideal vacation to remake a health. The town is known for its healing of the respiratory diseases and has over 30 medical clinics.

Spring

Although spring produces warm and pleasing climates it is also the wettest time of the year. Rainfall levels during spring average anywhere from 67mm to 107mm over the three months; however the sun never fails to be out for at least six hours each day. Average temperatures over March and April range from lows of 3ºC to highs of 16ºC. Even though May can be particularly wet, the climate distinctly rises to temperatures of 20ºC and seven hours of sunshine each day.

Summer

June, July and August are the most enjoyable months to visit Briancon as temperatures are warm and dry and sunshine hours are extensive. July and August are the townâs busiest time of the year, however the town will rarely get overcrowded as residents tend to holiday to nearby beach resorts further south. Temperatures during the summer range from the low to high twenties and are unlikely to fall below 15ºC. Rainfall is also relatively low during the summer months making it an ideal time to visit if you want to take on the benefits of regaining your health.

Autumn

Autumn is a great time to holiday to Briancon as the crowds have died from the peak summer months and sunshine hours are still high. September still promises enjoyable temperatures of 20ºC to 23ºC however by November daytime climates have dropped into single digits. Rainfall starts to rise in September, averaging at 82mm in October and then descends again in November.

Winter

Another ideal time to holiday in winter as rainfall is at its lowest for the year and because of its elevated altitude sunshine hours are particularly higher than other areas of Europe during the winter months. In Briancon the wintertime can be very scenic as snowfall can occasionally occur. Temperatures in December and January are known to fall sub-zero however this can make a vacation all the more enjoyable creating a fresh and crisp atmosphere.
