Boa Vista lies on the western bank of the Rio Branco in Brazil. It's a small city, but receives many visitors who stop to enjoy everything the city has to offer when travelling between Manaus to the south, to Venezuela to the north.
Weather-wise, November is a great time to visit Boa Vista. Rainfall is generally low for the region, with 29.4mm falling on average during the month. Temperatures are pleasantly warm, ranging from 22 to 28 degrees celsius.
The nice weather of these winter months is ideal for taking the 110 mile trip north east from Boa Vista's city centre, to Caracaranã Lake. It should take no more than 2 hours to get there, and it's well worth the time. Visitors can swim, windsurf, dive or fish on the lake, and there's numerous bars and restaurants overlooking the water.
The location of Caracaranã Lake in the Normandy region of Roraima is very picturesque, and is surrounded by abundant wildlife and trees, most notably cashew trees. The white sandy beaches are ideal for enjoying some winter sun and topping up the tan, and are acknowledged as being some of the most beautiful beaches in the state.
The lake is very well preserved and as such there's a small fee for admission, usually around £3. It's very popular with families, especially between October and April when conditions are hot and dry.
Don't worry about making the trip back to Boa Vista the same day, as there's plenty of accommodation at the lake. There's space for tents in the lakeside camping site, or for those who want a bit more luxury, there's 20 pine chalets on offer.
