The capital of Brazil's northernmost state, Roraima, is Boa Vista, a small and modern city with a fun nightlife and rich history. The equatorial climate means the weather is warm all year round, though the summer months are usually quite damp.
December is a lovely time to visit Boa Vista. Rainfall is a low 20.2mm on average, and temperatures are more reminiscent of a British summer than winter, ranging from 21 to 26 degrees celsius. Humidity is high, but shouldn't be too uncomfortable at this time of year.
For some unique Christmas presents for friends and family back home, head to the Centro de Artesanato Caxabmú; the craft centre. Two blocks of the city centre have been pedestrianised and are lined with craft stalls selling everything from locally grown cashew nuts to handmade sculptures.
Enjoy December's great weather and take a walk around one of the biggest parks in northern Brazil; Anaua Park. There's a large lake and gardens, and the park is one of the most popular sports centres in Boa Vista, especially for go karting. The park hosts some of the biggest annual events in Boa Vista and is a very busy over new year, filled with both locals and tourists who come to watch the midnight fireworks.
Stay at theEcoHotel in the heart of the city for just £50 per night. All rooms come with LCD TV's and that all important air conditioning. There's even a women only floor ideal for female travellers, especially those travelling by themselves. The hotel has a buffet restaurant and two on-site bars, perfect for relaxing at the end of the day, or mingling with other guests.
