With just one road leading in from Venezuela to the north, and one road leading out to Manaus in the south, the city of Boa Vista is a quiet and secluded area of Brazil, but it's also a fascinating and modern city which makes it a top choice for travellers.
Boa Vista has an equatorial climate; a type of tropical climate that sees very little differentiation between the seasons. August sees temperatures peak at roughly 30 degrees celsius, and drop to 24 degrees overnight. Although it's a damp city all year round, August marks the end of the summer 'rainy season', and experiences about 117.5mm of precipitation.
Sports enthusiasts will love the Ayrton Senna Complex in Boa Vista's city centre. The complex is almost 2 square miles of sporting environments, with tennis courts, volleyball nets, football fields, basketball hoops, running tracks and cycling lanes. The complex also houses the Praça das Águas; a pleasant square with a water fountain show.
Many of Boa Vista's bars and restaurants are located in the city centre, but head just a little way out and homesick visitors will be pleasantly surprised. On the outskirts of the city is the KingArthurPub. This English-themed pub boasts 4 different environments all under one roof, from a cozy and intimate setting in the wine cellar, to a party atmosphere with views across the city.
The HotelMaraca offers city centre lodgings from as little as £16 per night including breakfast each morning. Rooms feature private balconies, air conditioning, TV and kitchenette complete with fridge. This hotel is renowned for being open-minded and particularly welcoming of gay and lesbian travellers, and has an on-site pool and fully licenced bar for guests to enjoy.
