Boa Vista, the capital of the Brazilian state of Roraima, doesn't appear to be much of a tourist destination on the surface and only has two roads leading in and out of the city. It's a quiet area, but actually receives large numbers of visitors due to its prime location between Venezuela and Manaus.
Boa Vista has an equatorial climate which means it enjoys a warm and steady heat all year round. Temperatures generally range from 20 to 26 degrees celsius during April. The equatorial climate is a type of tropical climate, with no dry season. Rainfall increases in April from previous months, and sees about 83.9mm on average. As always, humidity levels are sky high which may be uncomfortable for some travellers.
For a relaxing time in Boa Vista, head to the Parque Germano Augusto Sampaio; the municipal park. As well as being very open, green and a great spot for photographs, visitors can view the fish in the lagoon, take a walk out on the pier, enjoy refreshments from one of the many cart vendors, play volleyball or football, or even practice some skating or BMX riding. There's also a craft centre in the park selling locally handmade art which make for great souvenirs and gifts.
In the evening, head to the CineSuperK; the city's cinema. The complex shows the latest hollywood blockbusters as well as Brazilian films, all with English subtitles for visitors who don't speak Portuguese. The cinema is conveniently located in a straight line east from the city centre, near to the hospital and the Anaua Park so it's easy to find.
The Colonial hotel is a good place to stay as it's very centrally located and offers rooms from just £22 per night. A buffet breakfast each morning is included in the cost, along with wifi connection.
