Béziers, France, is a relaxing yet exciting holiday destination for all ages and tastes, although it's particularly popular with older travellers looking to avoid the loud 18-30 scene of other destinations along the Mediterranean. The town may lack a rowdy nightlife, but instead boasts some of the top attractions in the Languedoc region. An especially attractive aspect is that all the major sights are within walking distance of each other.
The weather in May in Béziers is what many travellers wait for. Temperatures shoot up and the drizzly April showers begin to die down. Overnight, temperatures remain a cool-ish 12 degrees Celsius, but during the daytime readings in the low to mid twenties are common, averaging around 22 degrees. Rainfall drops to around 42 mm over the month. This is much lower than the previous month, but still a little higher than the typical mid summer levels.
May brings Caritats, Les fêtes médiévales, to the town; the annual medieval festival. It's a wonderful time to visit the city with plenty going on across the three day event. The festival gets bigger and better each year and includes a street parade, jousting re-enactments and events and, often considered to be the best part of the festival, the lines of stall selling homemade food and drink and handcrafted trinkets. Children will especially love the birds of prey who take part in demonstrations throughout the festival.
Restaurant Côté Sud serves up traditional French inspired cuisine including soups, salads, and steaks. The restaurant is open from Thursday to Sunday for both lunch and dinner and features a down to earth dining room and an outdoor patio for enjoying in the warm Mediterranean weather. The restaurant is located to the east of the town centre, towards the River Orb.
The Ibis Beziers Est is one of a number of chain hotels located in the town centre. The 108 rooms sleep between one and four guests, and cost from £48 per night. Each room features air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and private facilities. An all-you-can-eat buffet style breakfast is served up each morning, and guests can also grab a bite to eat at Le Restaurant; the onsite Mediterranean eatery.
