Béziers, France, is a small Mediterranean town located roughly 6 miles from the coastline. Despite not directly overlooking the sea, visitors to this southern France destination can still enjoy the best of the beaches and water sports by taking a trip to the outskirts of the town, and to neighbouring villages with beach access. Fortunately, travellers are looking at a just a quick 30 minute drive to some of the nation's best seaside resorts.

Although Béziers usually sees record crowds a month later in August, July is a close contender for busiest month due to the favourable weather. July is both the hottest and driest month in the town, making it a top choice, especially for families who are enjoying the school holidays. Temperatures are unlikely to drop much below 20 degrees Celsius, even overnight, while daytime highs reach the late 20's, sometimes popping over into the low 30's. Rainfall is a minimal 14 mm on average across the month, and is unlikely to cause any problems for travellers.

Just 15 miles southeast of the town centre lies Agde, which boasts one of the most beautiful beaches on the Mediterranean coastline: Cap d'Agde. As well as being one of the most stunning, it's also one of the most daring, as the entire town of Cap d'Agde is a naturist resort, commonly referred to as 'naked town'. The white sands and clear blue waters are both excellent quality, and there's plenty of beachfront activities and water sports going on for adrenaline junkies.

Back in Béziers, Le Maison de Petit Pierre is a popular lunch and dinner spot, serving up an array of cheese platters and small tapas plates including tiny, bite-sized hamburgers. Guests can choose to eat in the dining room or under the warm Mediterranean sun on the terrace. The restaurant is run by husband and wife team Fanny and Pierre Augé who aim to inject creativity and spontaneity into local produce.

The 45 air conditioned rooms at the 3* Hotel Imperator cost from £48 per night on a bed and breakfast basis. Located in the heart of the town, within walking distance of the major tourist sites and the River Orb, this hotel offers comfortable and affordable accommodations, with safe and secure private onsite parking. The hotel is proud to call 'one of the nicest towns in France' its home.
