Hurricanes
September is still summer in Bermuda, although the temperatures are starting to drop and the days are getting shorter. It is still peak tourist season so expect busy beaches and high prices. It is also still hurricane season and recently the most devastating storms have hit the island in this month including Hurricane Fabian in 2003 that directly hit Bermuda and led to loss of life, and Hurricane Igor in 2010 that was less devastating but caused damage and power cuts. The average rainfall at this time of year is around 130mm falling over 16 days during the month. The chances of getting rain during any day in September is around 60% and is usually experienced as moderate to heavy showers or thunderstorms. This is drier than October when it tends to be much wetter on average. The length of the day is decreasing in this month and there are around 7 hours of sunshine each day. Temperature

The highest recorded temperature in this month was 33°C and the lowest recorded was 19°C. This is beautiful weather for those who enjoy beaches, warm conditions and relaxing by the pool. Humidity can still be very high, ranging from 65% to 85%, the high air temperatures and gentle winds of between 4 mph and 16 mph can make the island feel very hot and sticky. A good way to cool down is a swim in the sea as water temperatures are a warm 27°C.

Horseshoe Bay Beach
Horseshoe Bay beach is one of the best beaches in Bermuda and is a popular choice for many visitors to the island. Located on the south shore of Bermuda, Horseshoe Bay has crystal clear blue sea, beautiful pink sand and caves and coves that are hidden away and perfect for exploring. There is plenty to keep everybody happy with beach chairs and sun loungers available for hire, or for more active visitors, there is snorkelling, boogie boards and beach volleyball to choose from. There are many food vendors and restaurants nearby and the beach hosts several events throughout the year including the sandcastle competition mentioned above. It is easy to get here on public transport as buses stop here regularly.

The service is fast and friendly and there is live music for guests to enjoy.

Overlooking the harbour in Hamilton is the Harry's at the waterfront restaurant. Featuring Harry's bar, the waterside patio, a private dining room and an extensive wine cellar, this is a great place to take friends for a special meal while visiting Bermuda. Things to do in Bermuda in September
Beating the Retreat Ceremony
The Beating the Retreat ceremony is held once or twice a month from May to October, although not in August. It is held at the Naval Dockyard area in Hamilton or in St George and is a re-enactment of a 17th century army tradition in Bermuda. This is an elaborate ceremony led by the Bermuda Regiment band in full uniform with a parade and guests of honour including the governor of Bermuda and the Mayor.
Bermuda Sand Sculpture Competition
Held in September at Horseshoe Bay beach is the Bermuda Sand Sculpture competition. Located on this beautiful long stretch of pink sand, the competition showcases some of the world's most talented sand sculptors and marks the end of summer for Bermudians. This is an amazing spectacle with incredible creations on the beach for everyone to come and see.
