Bergerac, located on the banks of the Dordogne River in south west France, is a small and quiet town and yet also one of the most important in the country. Surrounded by vineyards, it's one of the top wine-producing regions of France, and is one of the many reasons tourists flock to the area.
Temperatures remain somewhat pleasant in October, and can reach as high as 19 degrees celsius during the day. Overnight temperatures average around 9 degrees.
Rainfall remains moderate with 74mm on average. As with the rest of the year, around half of the month is expected to see some downpours so an umbrella is recommended if planning to spend a lot of time outdoors.
The Costi Museum in Bergerac is well worth a visit. Displaying the many statues and other artworks produced by master sculptor Constantin Papachristopoulos between 1929 and 1973, visitors are welcome to walk around the pieces, admiring them from every angle. The museum was established in 2000 when 'Costi', who was particularly fond of Bergerac, offered the town the artwork on the condition it was displayed to the public.
For dinner out, try Bergerac's Côté Noix restaurant. A tearoom during the day, and gourmet restaurant at night, there's a wide range of food on offer here.
