Benalmadena Beach for May

The Santa Ana Beach is a popular beach located near Benalmadena's marina. Here tourists can enjoy cocktails in numerous bars alongside the beach which is equipped with accessibility facilities for disabled tourists and offers free parking. There are parties held here almost every night during high season, while in off season the beach is mostly deserted.

The Playa de Benalnatura is a pebbly beach that has been formally designated as a naturist area. Most naturists who visit Benalmadena will end up here and the beach can be quite crowded with naturists of all ages during high season. There are 72 steps tourists have to take down to the beach so some caution is needed especially after a rain, when the steps are slippery.

Bars and Restaurants

La Viborilla is a popular seafood restaurant located on the eponymous beach and is considered as the best restaurant in the area of La Viborilla. Local fishermen deliver their catches to the restaurant's doorstep several times each day, ensuring that the seafood dishes here at La Viborilla is seriously fresh.

La Cubana is a beachside snack bar and all-day café located at the beach of Benalmadena. This is a great place to relax by the beach while avoiding the noise and commotion of local beach bars. The cocktails here are delicious and the menu offers a wide selection of tasty snacks to choose from.

Known for serving authentic Spanish cuisine for many decades now, Tapeo Granaino is a very popular local eatery that has stood the test of time. The restaurant specialises in tapas and all kinds of local delicacies, including seriously fresh fish dishes. The restaurant also stocks a wide variety of fine Spanish wines.

Things to do in Benalmadena in May

Located on the eponymous beach, Sunset Beach Water Sports offers a wide range of family friendly, fun filled water sports including jet skiing, parasailing, surfing and more. Emphasis is given on child friendliness and there are numerous specialists ready to help kids and beginners get the hang of every water sport available on the beach. The Sunset Beach Diving Club is also there and is perhaps the best club to learn about scuba diving and enjoy some easygoing snorkelling lessons that are suitable for children and adults alike.

Resting on top of Calamorro Mountain, the Garden of Eagles (Jardin de Las Aguilas) is a beautiful natural wildlife reserve and home to the largest population of eagles in Spain. The garden is well worth a visit by nature enthusiasts as it presents a unique opportunity to observe Mediterranean eagles from up close. Several birds of prey shows with trained eagles take place at the garden each day.

Dates for the diary

Taking place either in May or June, Corpus Christi is religious festival, which is widely celebrated in Benalmadena, with locals decorating their balconies and the main streets of town adorned with carpets of fresh flowers and herbs. A procession also passes through the streets.
