Weather Overview for Belek , Turkey 

Belek is a planned seaside resort on the southern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The resort enjoys over 300 days of sunshine in an average year. Winters are mild, but see the majority of the yearly rainfall.  The summers are very warm with daily temperatures averaging 28°C.

The area is often referred to as the Turkish Riviera as it offers some of the best beaches and cleanest water in the Mediterranean. Belek has become a popular golf holiday destination and boasts some excellent modern facilities. The resort is overlooked by the spectacular Toros Mountains. 

The sea temperature drops to a cool 16°C in the winter months but hits a very warm high of 28°C in the summer.

The warm summers, mild winters, large beach resorts and golf courses are making this a popular holiday resort for families. Belek appeals to younger families wanting to have a fun and affordable holiday. The modern nature of the resort means that most people are travelling to Belek on a package holiday. The hotels tend to have their own private beaches, a variety of entertainment and a choice of restaurants. This is the kind of place where people don't leave the hotel for their whole holiday but they are missing out on all the amazing places this resort has to offer.

Summer

Summers in this part of the world are long and hot with sunshine in abundance. By the end of May daily highs are frequently in the mid 20s and above. The temperature steadily rises reaching an average of 28°C in July and August with highs of 34°C and lows of 22°C. Daily highs remain above 30°C in September and are still above 25°C in October.

Mid-summer really is very hot with the mercury often rising into the 40s. The highest temperature recorded is nearly 45°C. Thankfully, Belek's coastal location means that it often benefits from cooling sea breezes. Believe me these are very welcome on the hottest days!

Rainfall in summer is very low and the arid countryside is proof of this. The period between June and September sees just 30mm in total on average that is less than 3% of the annual rainfall.

The resort experiences an average of 14 hours of sunshine per day from June to September. If you want to spend your holiday swimming the highest sea temperatures for the year are in August with an average temperature of 28°C.

The summer months are the most popular time to visit Belek with the biggest crowds hitting the resort during the school holidays. September is the ideal month to go to Belek if you want the summer warmth without the large crowds.

Autumn

Temperatures remain mild through the autumn months with November still enjoying daily highs in the 20's, and lows don't drop into the single figures until December. Early autumn is a very good time to visit Belek as you will avoid the crowds but the days are still warm and dry.

The rainy season begins in October and the days will get wetter as autumn proceeds. In November the resort receives an average of 145mm of rain spread out over 7 days.

The sea is still warm enough to swim all the way through autumn with the average sea temperature dropping from an average of 24°C in October to a cooler 21°C in November.

In October you will still have 10 hours a day of sunshine but by November this will drop to an average of eight hours a day of sunshine.

Winter

January is the coldest month of the year for Belek with a daily average of 11°C. The lows are generally in the single digits throughout winter with an average low of 8°C in December and getting colder in February with an average low of 6°C. The nights are cold but the day time temperatures are still pleasant especially when the sun is out.

Winter is the wettest season for Belek with the majority of the yearly rainfall falling over these three months. January is the wettest month of the year with an average of 230mm of rain falling over 12 days in the months. A total of around 640mm of rain falls over the winter months.

When the sun is out, winter days are very pleasant; the temperatures don't get as low on the coast as they do inland. If you do find yourself in Belek at this time and are hankering for some proper winter weather, the Toros Mountains are nearby and offer some fairly good ski resorts.

The resort experiences an average of 7 hours of sunshine per day n January but by March this has increased to around 10 hours a day.

The sea temperature becomes quite cool in winter but some people may still find it warm enough to swim on a sunny day. The average sea temperature drops from 19°C in December to 16°C in March.

The winter season sees the lowest crowds in Belek, with the exception of Christmas week, which means this, is a great time to visit if you want a bargain or a quite holiday. The weather is still considerably warmer and sunnier then London in December which makes this a good place to get a few hours of sun.

There is no record of snow falling in Belek in winter.

Spring

This is a really good time to visit Belek as the days are getting warmer and drier but you won't have to deal with crowds of holidaymakers. The average temperatures increase through spring from 13°C in March to 20°C in May. The average high in May is a very pleasant 25°C making this an ideal holiday time if you don't like the high temperatures of summer.

The rain fall quickly decreases through the spring months with an average rainfall of 101mm in March and just 30mm in May.

The sea temperature increases through spring from 17°C in March to 20°C in May. The majority of people will happily swim in 20 °C water and this is a good month to go swimming without the crowds.

The number of hours of sunshine in an average day increases from 10 in March to 13 in May.

Weather Hazards

In winter you can get very cold storms blowing in from the Mediterranean which bring icy rain and will low temperatures for a few days.

Wind that blows off the snow on the nearby Toros Mountains can be very cold and will make outdoor activities such as golf unpleasant.

The summer days can get very hot with temperatures in the 40's which can be very dangerous if you don't take cover in the middle of the day.
