August is unbearably warm in Bayahibe. Daytime temperatures reach a sweltering 31°C and, at night, only cool to 23°C. High humidity levels make it feel much hotter than it is, so expect sauna-like conditions when you arrive!

The summer months are the wet season in the Dominican Republic, so you should expect to experience some rain showers during your stay. However, these happen most frequently in the evenings, so your days at the beach should not be spoiled.

Daytime showers rarely last long and will probably provide a very welcome respite from the sweltering heat.

August is right in the middle of hurricane season in the Caribbean, so if you do visit during August then you must be prepared for the possibility of experiencing one. Please look out for weather warnings around your resort and heed any advice you are given.

Of course, when the weather is clear you will no doubt be spending plenty of time on one of the many beautiful beaches in the area. Bayahibe, Caleta and Minitas boast miles of golden sand and are usually much quieter than the busier tourist resorts.

Away from the beach there is a lot of beautiful countryside waiting to be discovered and, if you don't fancy trekking in the August sun, then there are plenty of other ways to enjoy it.

From helicopter rides to boat tours to jeep safaris, Bayahibe has it all on offer from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the sea.

You can also hire some scuba diving equipment and check out the coral reef, which is abundant in marine life. There are several shipwrecks waiting to be explored by more experienced divers. Scuba lessons are available and it is essential that you only attempt dives appropriate to your fitness and ability levels.
