September is the start of autumn in Banff, turning the whole town yellow and golden. The Aspen trees are the most beautiful to behold as they change their colours. This month can still expect on average 5 hours of sunshine per day.
However it starts to cool down in Banff from September onwards. The average daytime temperatures are around 16°C (about 61°F), whereas the average minimum temperatures during the night tend to be around 3°C (about 37°C).
You may also want to carry a protective waterproof jacket with you, as the rainfall expected over September is on average 42.1mm over 13 days.
There are also two days of snow and foggy weather expected over this month, so make sure you pack warmer clothes to protect against the cold; especially for the evenings as it gets quite cold and, with the incredible nightlife that boasts a wide choice of pubs and clubs, you will definitely be out partying until late.
September is also a bit quieter in terms of tourism compared to the summer months. If you want to avoid the crowd and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and nature, then this is the best time to visit. Moreover, the hotels are bit cheaper during this time of the year.
Mid September also sees the Canadian Rocky Half Mountain Marathon. Around 1000 competitors usually partake in this mini marathon event.
