If you decide to travel to Banff in December, be prepared for some of the coldest weather the area experiences. One can usually expect 9 days of snow and foggy weather conditions and, on average, only 2 hours of sunshine per day.
The highest average daytime temperature in Banff is -5.1°C (23°F), while the average minimum temperature drops down to 13.3°C (8°f). There is also an average rainfall of 33.2 mm over 13 days.
If you do not like extreme climate conditions, December is not the best month to travel to Banff.
However, winter does create excellent conditions for extreme sports such as skiing and snowboarding. So if you do decide to go to Banff at this time of year, be sure to pack plenty of warm clothing and protective gear, to adequately protect you during this time.
Santa on Skis can be seen on Christmas day at Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise Ski.
New Years Eve can be celebrated at Policeman's Creek Pond and in Centennial Park, where there will be a whole range of festivities, including sleigh rides and a firework show.
There is also Banff First Night, at which all the family along with thousands of spectators can bring in the New Year with a whole range of activities.
