Where to Stay
While Bahia Feliz is decidedly quiet and calm, the nearby town of San Agustin provides a destination that meets the middle ground of busy tourist town and simple seaside resort. Located less than 5 minutes' drive from Bahia Feliz, it is a great option for accommodation to enjoy the fabulous spring weather in April and uncrowded beaches of the low season. Visitors love Apartmentos Flipper located in San Agustin. The sunsets from the sun terrace at this low-key, chill hotel are stunning, and the guest rooms are simple, yet adequate. It can start to feel crowded during the summer high season, so April is the perfect time to take advantage of the mid-range accommodation and amazing prices.
April is also a fantastic time to stay in upscale accommodation without breaking the bank. The per night prices at the Radisson Blu Resort can skyrocket during high season, but the same fantastic service, premium beach access and exclusive environment can be had for a lower price throughout the spring. As there is simply never a bad time to visit Bahia Feliz, why not save some cash, without sacrificing service, and plan a trip during low season. The 189 guest rooms at the Radisson Blu have views of the sea and overlook the beautiful resort grounds. 3 swimming pools, excellent terraces and access to 3 beaches on Gran Canaria's southern coast make this a fantastic place to while away the sunny April days.
Another upscale hotel that drops its prices during the low season is Lopesan Baobab Resort located in the resort town of Meloneras. Meloneras is just to the west of the larger town of Maspalomas and an easy drive from Bahia Feliz. The large hotel complex has a North African theme and chic atmosphere. The grounds are filled with interesting water features, swimming pools and architectural decisions. While the wonderful Maspalomas beach is a short walk away, many guests choose to spend their days on the lounge chairs at the gorgeous pool at Lopesan Baobab Resort, one look at the photos and you will know why!
What to Do
While the exact date of Easter changes each year, it often falls in early April. In these years, it is a great time to visit Bahia Feliz and experience the "Holy Week" celebrations that take place the week before Easter. The weather normally cooperates for all of the outdoor events planned across the island. Throughout the week there are parades, and the highlight in many towns and villages is when religious statues and icons are carried through the streets.
For those looking for a more active experience there are numerous attractions close to Bahia Feliz, for example you can pay a visit to Aqualand in Maspalomas which offers a wide variety of water-based entertainment, especially including water slides and water boats. Although it is quite expensive for entry, it can be a great day out for the family.
Hit the Beach
Playa Melaneras, located just over 15 minutes from Bahia Feliz, is the type of beach destination that is quickly fading among the large-scale resorts and overbuilt oceanfront properties. Here, there is still space on the sand to lay down a towel and forget the rest of the world exists. The waters at Playa Melaneras are calm and great for swimming and the bright sunshine is reliable all year long.
Where to Eat & Drink
The pleasant weather of April is a great time of year to explore a bit more of Gran Canaria and try something new. Head into the mountainous centre of Gran Canaria or take a trip west along the coast until you reach Puerto Rico either way, one thing is for sure; you will not go hungry.
Let Me Take You is a small restaurant of 5 or 6 tables that serves a fusion of Spanish and Asian cuisine. Chic and imaginative, Let Me Take You is just over 3 km from Roque Nublo in Tejeda.
The shopping centre in Puerto Rico is filled with restaurants and cafes, however some of the best restaurants in this bustling port town are tucked down alleys and hidden from first glance. Spend some time and find Happy Valley Indian. The family owned restaurant is a great alternative to Spanish cuisine or resort style food, and the curries are excellent.
The Greek Village restaurant in Maspalomas is a fantastic stop for dinner. It is near enough to Bahia Feliz that you can be back at your holiday apartment or hotel soon after. The family who started this lovely place now own 3 great restaurants, but the Greek Village is still a top choice. Open 5:00 PM until midnight, the Greek Village has amazing Greek dishes and some fantastic Greek wines a combination sure to create a memorable night out.
