The falling temperatures and increased precipitation that characterised the autumn months in Auckland continue in the city through the first month of winter, June. While destinations in the Northern Hemisphere are finally finding summer, cities and resorts in the Southern Hemisphere, like Auckland are prepared for winter's arrival. New Zealand Royal Ballet
The New Zealand Royal Ballet is based in Wellington, New Zealand, but each year the company takes to the road and tours certain cities on the North and South Islands. Normally performing two ballets each season, the first performance in Auckland typically takes place in late May or early June. For visitors at the right time of year, a night at the New Zealand Royal Ballet can be a special night out.
Auckland Zoo
While June is not an ideal time for the beaches and walks around Auckland, there are still a number of outdoor activities in the city that can be enjoyed. Despite the colder temperatures, many people still visit the Auckland Zoo. The zoo is not far from Auckland's central business district but still encompasses 40 acres of exhibits and zoological gardens. The zoo's largest and newest exhibit, Te Wao Nui, is interestingly dedicated to the flora and fauna of New Zealand. The Auckland Zoo is open 9:00am 5:00pm daily.
