The Argeles Sur Mer region; offering easy access to Perpignan and Spain, enjoys a typical Mediterranean landscape and climate. With seven kilometres of sandy beaches, three kilometres of creeks and two nature reserves, Argeles benefits from a warm, sunny climate for the majority of the year. Argeles Sur Merâs sheltered & warm micro climate & average 300 days of sun a year make this location an ideal vacation, particularly if travellers like to be in an authentic France destination.
Generally speaking, Argeles Sur Mer experiences long, hot summers and relatively short, cold winters. Consequently from April through to mid-October, the climate gets progressively warmer; usually peaking in July and August. Late October to March can be wet, windy and cold. Unlike the UK however, days are usually bright with sunshine whatever the temperature. Of course, tourists should not forget the presence of Argeles Sur Mer, ensuring sufficient rainfall and variable temperatures throughout the region will always result in beautiful flourishing vegetation, particularly in the winter. Easter is normally the weather turning point and usually the very first cargo lade (snail barbecue!) takes place at this time to honour the fine weather to come. Temperatures can at time become rather extreme throughout the area; with climates during the summer months experiencing highs of 29°C and lows of 14°C. Again with the winter months the region can hit highs of up to 19°C, yet temperatures can still obtain lows as cold as 4°C.
La Tramontane is the famous wind and gusts over the Argeles region; also known as the vent marine or sea wind. La Tramontane has an important function in that chases away any hint of a grey cloud lurking and accordingly ensures a sparkling blue sky. This is enough to say that this is a strong wind, whatever the season, and while both tourists and residents are often thankful for the wind in the summer months, it is less welcome in the winter!
As Argeles Sur Mer is located in the sunniest division of France, the climate is excellent all year round. There are many features of about this region that bring in travellers from all over the world such as forests, mountains, beaches, rocky coves and the Mediterranean Sea are these all guarantee tourists a warming vacation at any time of the year.
