What's the weather like in Antigua in March

Temperature

The weather begins to get warmer in Antigua in March. During this month, the average temperature for the island rises from 25.5°C in JanuaryFebruary and the start of March up to 26°C (created by highs of 28°C and lows of 24°C) by the end of March, making the end of the month the best time to visit if you want to go when the island is at its hottest.

Antigua Beach for March

Found in the west of Antigua, Darkwood Beach is one of the less popular beaches, making it perfect for those in search of a relaxing day in the sun. You won't find any sun loungers or parasols here, so make sure you bring your own shade. However, there is a beach bar onsite which serves food and drink throughout the day and also has a bathroom. The calm, shallow waters create the ideal environment for swimming and since there are no water sports practised on this beach, it's totally safe for adults and children alike to play in.

For a beach with more atmosphere, check out Fort James Beach. Located within Fort Bay, this beach is popular with locals and visitors alike, which means it always has a lively, fun vibe. Various sports games, such as volleyball and cricket matches, regularly take place on the beach and are open for everyone to join in with. You'll find sun loungers and parasols available to rent on the soft white sand, as well as a beach bar and restaurant which serve local food and drinks throughout the day. The waters here are very calm and shallow, making them perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

Bars and Restaurants

For a taste of the Mediterranean during your holiday in Antigua, pop into Sheer Rocks. Open every afternoon (except Tuesdays) from midday and every evening (expect Tuesdays and Sundays) from 6pm, this restaurant is located overlooking the beach and offers an Italian-inspired tapas menu at lunchtime and a small a la carte menu on the evening with Caribbean and Italian choices. There is also a dessert menu featuring ice cream, frozen nougat and sweet tapas, as well as an extensive international wine list.

D Boat Antigua is the place to go if you're looking for a restaurant with a difference. This eatery is set inside a boat off the coast and you need to catch a ferry to get to it. Despite the hassle, the 360° ocean views you can enjoy from the restaurant definitely make it worth it. The comprehensive menu covers everything from burgers and steak wraps to grilled fish and vegetarian options all of which are freshly prepared to order and made with local ingredients.

On the other hand, if you're in the mood for Greek, stop by Akropolis Greek Restaurant. Located in Jolly Harbour, this restaurant hosts an all-you-can-eat Greek buffet every Thursday at 6pm and again at 8pm, which works out great value for money if you've got a large appetite. Every other night of the week, the restaurant offers an a la carte menu, with dishes such as fresh lobster pasta, roast lamb and grilled pork chop. You can choose to dine inside in the air-conditioned restaurant, outside on the breezy terrace or take your order back to your hotel room. 

Things to do in Antigua in March

Get to know the history of Antigua by spending a few hours at Betty's Hope. This sugar plantation was established in 1674 and today has been developed into a monument and museum which tells the story of the slaves and the workers who spent their lives here. The mill is currently being restored, but the visitors' centre is still open to the public and features early estate plans, maps, pictures and artefacts from throughout Betty's Hope's history. Visitors are free to wander around the mill and other buildings on the site, but since there is no information about anything other than in the visitors' centre, you might not know what you're looking at.

When the sun and heat gets a bit much for you, seek some shade by popping into the Antigua Megaplex 8. Situated in St Johns, this cinema shows a wide range of current films across eight screens all of which are shown in English. In addition to the spacious and air-conditioned screening rooms, the Antigua Megaplex 8 also offers a very affordable concessions stand selling drinks and snacks, restaurant serving more filling main courses and drinks and various classic and modern arcade games. If you're travelling on a budget, plan to go on a Tuesday or Thursday, when tickets are discounted.
