What's the Weather like in Amsterdam in June

June marks the beginning of summer in Amsterdam and it is no surprise that the rise in the number of tourists corresponds with the rise in temperatures.

Temperature

June in Amsterdam can be very pleasant with average afternoon highs of 19°C (66°F) and usual temperatures reaching 15°C (59F), compared to July, which has average high and low temperatures of around 13°C-21°C. 

Overnight low average temperatures also begin to pick up, at 11°C (52°F). Bring light and comfortable clothing, but make allowances for the evenings, which are still chilly.

Rainfall

Rainfall is on the rise in June with the occasional thunderstorm mixed in as well. Rainfall amounts throughout the month average out to approximately 60-70mm spread out over an average of 9 wet days, which does minimize your risk of encountering any wet weather.

Average daily sunshine peaks at this time of year with 11 hours so this a good time to visit the city. June is also when many begin to head back to the local beaches as the sea temperatures begin to climb and averages 14°C, an improvement on May

Beaches in Amsterdam for June

When the weather begins to warm up, many in Amsterdam begin to head out to the area's urban beaches. Blijburg aan Zee

Pllek

Pllek is just a short ferry ride away from the city of Amsterdam and is a hip, waterfront bar where visitors can enjoy a beer while enjoying the sand and the view of the city from across the water.

StrandZuid

StrandZuid is located south of the city center and is an inland beach next to a lake. Visitors have the choice of dining in a nearby trendy restaurant or hitting the party beach to take in the sights.

Things to do in Amsterdam in June

There are numerous events to take advantage of when traveling to Amsterdam during the summer months. The longer days, combined with the warm weather, facilitates a festival culture in the city which sees the streets teeming with live performances, shows and other displays.

Rembrandt Museum

The Netherlands is rightly famous for its 17th century art and Rembrandt was one of the prominent painter which earned the country a reputation in the eyes of the world. Today, his former home has been lovingly restored into a museum which allows you to explore his life and work in greater detail.

Royal Palace

Located in the very centre of the city in Dam Square, it would be hard to visit Amsterdam without noticing the Royal Palace. This imposing building dates back hundreds of years and its stately rooms are open for tourists to explore. It's worth noting that under 18s get free admission, as do those signed up to the Museumkaart scheme.

Holland Festival

The Holland Festival is one of the country's premier festivals taking place throughout the entire month of June. Many of the events with this festival take place in and around Amsterdam and opera, dance, music and theatre.

Open Garden Days

Despite being famous for their flowers, there aren't many gardens in the city of Amsterdam itself. However, the third weekend of June is different when 25 secret gardens hold an open house. The open garden days allow visitors into spots that are not always open to the public.

Artis ZOOmeravonden

Artis ZOOmeravonden is held every Saturday during the summer months in Amsterdam at Artis Royal Zoo and features live music and activities.
