The streets of Amalfi are adorned with colorful decorations, and the air is filled with the sounds of joyous hymns and prayers.
St. Stephen's Day 🛐
The day of Santo Stefano in Amalfi, celebrated as St. Stephen's Feast Day, is a cherished public holiday in Italy observed on December 26th. This day holds a special significance as it marks the commemoration of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr. Christmas Day (Natale) 🎡
Christmas Day on December 25th is celebrated by the people of Amalfi as a public holiday. For Christmas presents, children write letters to Babbo Natale who is the Father Christmas. Christmas celebrations usually officially start eight days before Christmas where many people will attend church everyday, whilst on Christmas Eve many people attend midnight mass and do not eat meat. Finally, on Christmas Day, people will attend church once again and feast upon various delights such as cured meat, lasagne, roast chicken, braised beef and Panettone (fruit cake). But of course many Italian families will have their own adaptations.
