What's the weather like in Altinkum in January
If you were looking for one word to sum up January, then it would have to be 'rainy'. Whilst we're not talking about a total washout by any means, the first month of the year is the rainiest month, and also the coldest. Don't despair however, as despite this reality, Altinkum is still warmer and drier than many other resorts in neighbouring countries at this time of year, such as those in Bulgaria for instance.
Temperature
You can expect an average temperature of 6°C throughout the month, however on those warmer days the mercury does creep up a couple of degrees, to an average high of 8°C. If you're out and about of an evening then remember a warm coat, as the low dips down to 3°C, and at this time of year you will really notice the evening set in around the 4pm mark, as it begins to get darker a little earlier, and the temperature drops simply remember a warm jacket if you're likely to be out into the early evening.
Rainfall
We mentioned rain, and around 174mm of precipitation is expected at this time of year, which does generally affect 12 days of the month to some degree. This shouldn't stop you exploring the area around the resort however, as neighbouring Bodrum is a great place to head no matter what the month or type of weather you are experiencing; simply remember to take an umbrella in your bag even if the skies look clear.
Sunshine Hours
It's certainly not all doom and gloom, as the sun shines for a wonderful 7 hours per day, which is much improved on some European destinations at this time, and even though it may be a little too chilly for swimming and water-sports at this time, the Aegean Sea still hovers around the 17°C mark.
Winter storms may make an impact on a break in this part of the world during the first month of the year, but they are generally not prolonged.
Altinkum Hotels for January
January doesn't have to mean a limited number of hotels and apartments on offer, in fact the first month of the year still means plenty of choice in Altinkum, and neighbouring Didim. Nazar Hotel is a very popular choice, with the beach within a stone's throw. This is a modern and spacious hotel, which is a great base for exploring further something which should certainly be done.
Alternatively, Altinersan Hotel is open all year around and is a good option for families, as they have dedicated family rooms. Free Wi-Fi comes as standard, and the on-site restaurant and café bar gives you options for your dining.
Didim Beach Resort is another family-friendly hotel, situated right on the beach. The weather might not be optimum for swimming and spending excessive amounts of time on the beach, but it's certainly a wonderful sight to wake up to.
Bars and Restaurants
You should of course start your day the way you mean to go on, and trying a traditional Turkish breakfast is certainly a must do. You'll find many restaurants who go down the traditional route at this time of year, and the feast before you will certainly set you up for the day!
A more laid-back feel will hit you when you visit Altinkum at this time of year, and you will see residents and ex-pats enjoying their daily lives, especially at the weekends, when most people head out for a few drinks and entertainment. Pelikan Bar & Restaurant is lively choice, child-friendly, and somewhere which offers good music and delicious food, without being too loud.
Alternatively, Engin's Pub gives you that chilled-out destination for drinks, at surprisingly low prices too. You'll find a range of different beverages here, with something to suit every taste. However, you might want to head somewhere special, somewhere with an amazing view whilst you dine, and in that case the Marina Restaurant is for you.
