Things to do in Almeria in June
On midsummer's night, 23rd June, Almeria celebrates Noche del San Juan, a combination of an ancient pagan festival and the Christian feast of San Juan. Throughout this fiesta, papier mache figures are set alight around the town and bonfires are lit along the Paseo Maritimo. Visitors can enjoy fireworks, traditional dancing and music.
If visiting the beach is getting too routine, head to the Parque Nicholas Salmeron, a lovely open park area between the city and the sea with children's play areas and ideal for picnics in the sun. The park has some interesting sculptures, water features and art, and some of the filming of "Lawrence of Arabia" occurred here.
