November marks the last full month of the wet season in Akumal and also the traditional end of hurricane season. While it is still possible to get a late season tropical storm in December, the season officially ends on the last day of the month. Even though this time of the year is still considered a part of the wet season, due to the holiday season quickly approaching, there may be more people than usual visiting the area to take advantage of some sun and the warm conditions.
Despite the fact that winter is officially just around the corner, temperatures throughout the day remain very warm. Overall daily temperatures average 26°C (79°F) over a 24-hour period. Temperatures like this can be very pleasant, especially when residents of North America or Europe are beginning to shiver. Even the overnight lows are still warm with temperatures only falling to an average of 23°C (73°F). Average afternoon highs are still warm enough shorts and short sleeves as they will climb to 28°C (82°F).
Surface water temperatures also remain very warm with numbers of 28°C (82°F). With numbers like these, visitors are still able to take advantage of snorkelling, scuba diving, swimming and other water activities without worrying about being too cold.
While the area does receive an average of 6 hours of sunshine per day during this time of year, there is still plenty of late afternoon cloud cover that results in showers and thunderstorms developing. Some rain can be heavy and results in an average of 102mm of precipitation throughout the month. Even though these numbers are down significantly from October, it is still a lot of rain falling over a period of just 8 days. With fewer days seeing rainfall, visitors can feel more confident in making outdoor plans.
