Weather Overview

March is the beginning of spring for Akumal, but temperatures are only slightly warmer than what they were in the previous month. But the warm temperatures are not the only reason why this is such a popular time to visit the area. This marks the driest month of the year and the height of the busy season with visitors from around the world looking to take in the sites and sounds of the region.

Throughout the month, only 37mm of rain is expected to fall. Additionally, precipitation is expected on only 4 days of the month. While some rain can be heavy at times, it is generally very short-lived allowing visitors to resume their outdoor activities. Even with dry conditions expected, it may still be wise to consult an extended forecast before leaving home.

Visitors can expect to experience an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day. This allows for plenty of time outdoors and also ties April and May as the months with the most sunshine throughout the year.

Temperatures remain warm both on land and in the sea throughout this time of year. The average daily temperature is a warm 25°C (77°F). It is important to make sure you get a room with good air conditioning as it will be warm throughout the day and night. The average overnight low will only fall to 22°C (72°F). This is slightly warmer than the previous month. Afternoon highs are also slightly warmer with temperatures reaching an average of 28°C (82°F).

In the water, temperatures remain steady at an average of 26°C (79°F). However, as the seasons continue to change water temperatures will begin to climb in the coming months. 

Where to Stay

All rooms feature air conditioning, satellite TV, bathroom amenities and a balcony. There is also plenty to do at the resort throughout the day with activities in the daytime hours and nightly entertainment once the sun goes down.

The Grand Oasis Tulum is an all-inclusive resort that takes luxury to a whole new level. Guests have access to a private beach or they can choose to remain at the plunge pool for plenty of rest and relaxation. Guests will enjoy dining at the ten on-site restaurants and then working the meal off at the disco. There are many other activities including golf, tennis, scuba diving and more. In fact, you may have to lengthen you March holiday to fit it all in. 

 

Hit the Beach

Those looking to take in a little history along with their beach adventure will not want to pass up Talum. As March is the driest month of the year, this is a great time to go exploring while also enjoying the sand and surf. Visitors to Talum can view more than 60 structures that were originally created by the Mayans to protect their city from the sea. Located near the Temple of the Descending Gods, is a small beach where visitors can bask in the sun or go for a swim while knowing that the ancient Mayans once brought their boats up to the same shores. 

Restaurants and Nightlife

La Lunita Restaurant is located along the beachfront in Akumal and offers guests a beautiful setting in which to enjoy dinner and a drink. Diners are able to walk in from the beach and experience the dishes consisting of traditional Mexican fare as well as fresh fish. With prompt service and a friendly staff, there is a lot to like about this restaurant.

Lol-Ha Restaurant is located inside the Hotel Akumal Caribe and offers guests a luxury dinner at reasonable prices. This upscale restaurant is perfect for those looking to enjoy a dinner date or just enjoy fine food. Before settling in for your meal, be sure to take advantage of the restaurants impressive cocktail hour. 

If you are looking for a party, then you can't pass up Coco Bongo in Playa Del Carmen. Known as one of the hottest spots in the area, this club features nightly shows as well as music and plenty of drinks. Be sure to get the VIP package for unlimited drinks and get ready for the party of your life. 

Things to Do

With only 37mm of precipitation expected in the month of March, now is the time to hit the beach and get adventurous. One of the more popular things to do while on holiday is take in the sites below the waves and go scuba diving. The Akumal Dive Shop is one of the most well respected dive shops in the region and will take good care of you while showing you sites you won't soon forget. Dive choices include wreck diving, night diving, deep diving and more.

If diving isn't your thing, you may want to try your luck on the links and take in a round or two of golf. There are numerous golf courses throughout the region for golfers of all skill levels. Many are attached to the various resorts, but there are also courses such as the Robert Trent Jones designed 27-hole Riviera Maya Golf Club or the Hard Rock Golf Club available for those who might be staying elsewhere.
