Forecast
Avg Historical Daily Average

Weather in July can be stormy from the beginning to the end with showers and thunderstorms likely. Much of the rain will continue to fall in the afternoon and early evening hours, so plans will have to be made accordingly and checking the extended forecast will help. However, much of the region is experiencing similar conditions so even considering an alternate holiday location may not be possible if you are trying to avoid the rain.

Additionally, it is possible for tropical storms to develop in the Yucatan Channel during this time of the year. While many of these storms are minor tropical storms or hurricanes, they can still add significantly to the rainfall totals.

Even with the rain, the region will still experience an average of 7 hours of sunshine per day. This sun will help to heat the afternoons to an average of 31°C (88°F), compared with overnight of just 24°C (75°F) which remain constant from the previous two months. The average daily temperature during this time is a warm 28°C (82°F).

Water temperatures are also consistent from June and reach an average of 28°C (82°F). However, with the amount of rain the area receives, the best time to hit the beach will be in the morning hours before the heat of the day is able to generate afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Despite an average of 7 hours of sunshine, Akumal will receive an average of 130mm of precipitation. This rain is expected to fall over a period of 12 days. As a result, much of the month is wet and will lead to fewer crowds during this off-season. Without as many tourists, there will be some deals to be had. However, due to the rising popularity of the region, these deals aren't as good as they once were.

Where To Stay

Those needing a little more space will appreciate Las Casitas Akumal. That's because the resort is actually made up of 18 separate houses. Each one contains two bedrooms and two baths along with a fully equipped kitchen, dining room and all the amenities of home. The resort features four different room styles to choose from and all come with the comforts of home. Additionally, the resort features numerous restaurants from the casual to the formal as well as several bars. Guests will also never get bored with a ton of activities scheduled on a daily basis.

The El Dorado Seaside Suites are a perfect choice for anyone on a July holiday looking for a nice, but reasonable place to stay. This adult-only resort is great for couples who are on their honeymoon or just looking for some peace and relaxation. Hit The Beach

Located just a few miles north of Akumal is Maroma Beach. Many people actually consider this beach not only to be one of the best in Mexico, but also one of the best in the world thanks to the incredible colour of the offshore waters. The area is also famous for great snorkelling just a few feet from the shoreline. Access to the beach is somewhat limited as visitors will have to go through one of the resorts, but it is well worth it to see one of the prettiest places on earth.

Restaurants and Nightlife

Now in a new location, Imelda's La Ecocina continues to offer high quality food at reasonable prices. While it is famous for its French toast, be sure to take in the large menu located on the chalkboard. With large portions and reasonable prices, the whole family will enjoy this traditional Mexican restaurant.

With good food and good service, guests return time and time again to Taco Maya near Akumal. Located off the traditional tourist route, it may be a little hard to find, but this restaurant is worth the effort. The food is of traditional Mexican fare, with large portions and very reasonable prices. This is one spot that shouldn't be missed.

Senor Frog's in Playa del Carmen is a great place to get your party on. With a fully stocked bar and music, you can get your groove on while enjoying a wide variety of well made drinks. This is a great place to see and be seen while on holiday.

What To Do

Even though there is a good chance of rain in Akumal for the month of July, now may be the perfect time to take an ATV out on a tour. You will be guaranteed to get dirty, but you will also have a great adventure at the same time. Jungle Jim's ATV's Xtreme is just the company to take you and your family on an adventure deep in the jungle. Most tours also include a break for zip lining or snorkelling. The company offers two tours each day with pickup at your resort.

While you may have to pay to enjoy swimming with dolphins, swimming with sea turtles can be absolutely free. The area is famous for its sea turtles and all you need is a mask and a snorkel. Just by swimming a few metres into the ocean, you are almost guaranteed to see plenty of turtles. However, be sure to respect them and never touch them, but politely watch from a distance.
