Al Bateen Beach
Al Bateen Beach is a beautiful, smaller family beach in southern Abu Dhabi overlooking Hudariyat Island. The 800m of waterfront are popular amongst locals and a great place to enjoy an evening picnic. Al Bateen Beach was recently awarded Blue Flag status for its clean water and environmental practices. Clean watersports are available at this beach, including paddle boarding, kayaking, and windsurfing. You can also find volleyball courts, a children's play area, showers, and changing rooms at this beach.
Bars and Restaurants
Nahaam
Nahaam is a fun poolside restaurant at the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers hotel. The casual setting provides great service with a wonderful ambience. The award-winning menu is guaranteed to satisfy all tastes, where you'll find roasted asparagus, salmon salad, calamari, an entire pizza menu, Thai red seafood curry, and a selection of grilled steaks and fish. More casual items include burgers and sandwiches. Be sure to save room for something off of their extensive dessert menu. Nahaam is open daily from 11AM to11PM and reservations are recommended.
Almayass
You'll find a great fine dining experience at Almayass in the Sheraton on Corniche Road. This wonderful Lebanese restaurant has locations worldwide. The ambience is playful yet elegant, adding to a wonderful menu and great service. There's a large mezze vegetarian menu as well as a mezze meat & shrimp menu. Some of your options include baba ghanouj, spicy eggplant, Armenian sausages, kebbeh, and some outstanding hummus dips. Their grill menu is delicious and exploding with flavor, serving a variety of kebabs and shawarma meats. Almayass also features a rather large dessert menu. Almayass is open daily from noon until 1AM.
Zuma
Zuma is a cozy Japanese restaurant on Al Maryah Island and is a great late night option if you're out on the town. Zuma is modeled after the Japanese izakaya, a casual pub where food is shared and brought out throughout your sitting. Their full bar serves both classic cocktails and artisan house creations. The food menu has a large selection of sushi and sashimi, small plates of fried softshell crab and fried squid, and larger plates of spicy beef tenderloin, roasted lobster, and grilled seabass. Zuma is open Thursday & Friday from noon until 2AM and Saturday through Wednesday from noon until 1AM.
Tavern
Tavern considers itself the most authentic British pub in Abu Dhabi, but you'll have to visit to see for yourself. This fun establishment is located in the Sheraton on Corniche. Tavern is set in a cozy atmosphere with relaxing warm tones. You'll find great live entertainment most nights of the week, or if there is a match on TV, they can accommodate you for this as well. The food menu includes everything you'd expect at a pub from appetizers, burgers, ribs, and fish & chips. Tavern is open Sunday through Wednesday from 4PM to 2AM, Thursday from noon until 2:30AM, and Friday & Saturday from noon until 2AM. Happy hour lasts from open until 8PM.
Things to do in Abu Dhabi in October
Yas Waterworld
Yas Waterworld is the perfect place for the family to cool down on a hot day. Yas Waterworld is set on 40 acres of land and contains over 40 rides of all types and for all ages. There are high-speed roller coasters, including the longest suspended roller coaster in the Middle East. Other themed areas include a children's play area, adventure park, and a leisure area with wave pools and lazy rivers. The defining feature of the park is the large spider web of waterslides all dropping swimmers into different pools, from slides of all lengths and speeds. You'll also find restaurants and shops at Yas Waterworld. Yas Waterworld is open daily from 10AM to 6PM.
Camel Trekking in the Liwa Desert
Celebrate slightly cooler temperatures with a desert safari via camel. This is one of the top outdoor activities in Abu Dhabi. The tour operators will pick you up at your hotel and then take you to their desert camp. On the way you'll play in the dunes in your air-conditioned vehicle, driven by expert desert guides. Once at the camp you'll enjoy a quick snack before heading back out on camels. In addition to the trucks and camels, you can also explore the dunes in smaller, fun quads. Refreshments and tea are included.
Mushrif Central Park
One of Abu Dhabi's best parks is the Mushrif Central Park, also known as Umm Al Emarat Park. This park is located in central Abu Dhabi. Mushrif Park features beautiful modern design elements with striking architecture against the palm trees and lush green spaces. If you visit on the weekend you'll find live music, food stalls, crafts vendors, and markets. There are activities for the kids at Mushrif Park too, including a play area and animal barn with goats, ponies, and camels. Mushrif Park also has an arboretum full of tropical trees and misters to provide relief from the sun. Mushrif Park also regularly hosts various events and movie screenings.
Abu Dhabi International Boat Show
Abu Dhabi is a great destination for boaters and is quickly becoming a major market for the marine industry. Every October the ADNEC Marina hosts the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show, a fun event for everyone. If you're in the market for a boat, daydreaming about the day you'll own one, or just enjoy admiring them, this is a great event to visit. You can also participate in marine activities while you're here, like jet skiing, paddle boarding, and fishing. Sailing clubs offer children's sailing lessons. Traditional wooden dhows are on display and you can find live music in the evenings. Numerous food and beverage tents are also set up throughout the venue.
