Dress Code

You'll want to find a balance between comfort and custom if you're visiting Abu Dhabi in April.  The local police do enforce dress codes, especially when visiting mosques.  Short sleeve shirts are okay for men and women in public, as long as they cover the shoulders and midriff and aren't too tight.  Women must also cover the knees.  However, in mosques, women must cover everything except the face and hands.

Corniche Beach

One of the most popular marine areas in Abu Dhabi is Corniche Beach. This beach is part of the 8km-long Corniche Road waterfront, a promenade full of outstanding hotels, shops, and restaurants.  Corniche Beach itself is rather large but fills up quickly on the weekends; if you want a guaranteed chair and umbrella you better get there early or go during the week.  Admission to the public beach is free and there is a small fee for the family beach and singles beach.  Lifeguards are plentiful and allow swimming out to 40m from shore. Corniche Beach has earned the acclaimed Blue Flag status, acknowledging the beach's clean water and eco-friendly practices.

Bars and Restaurants

Azura

Azura Panoramic Lounge is one of the many popular restaurants in the St. Regis Tower.  This casual restaurant is the perfect place to take in views of the Gulf and watch the sunset.  The restaurant is comprised of three levels with cozy indoor dining and outdoor terrace seating.  Azura's menu features a variety of Middle Eastern and Asian inspired dishes.  Lunches include a juicy Asian teriyaki burger, chicken katsu wrap, beef kebab rolls, and a fresh sushi menu.  Main courses include grilled marinated lamb chops, fresh seafood platter, and an Arabic mix grill of shish tawook, beef kebab, kofta, and grilled veggies.  Azura is open daily from noon until midnight.

Lemon Lounge Abu Dhabi

The Lemon Lounge is a casual restaurant and café in the Ramada Abu Dhabi Corniche and has earned rave reviews.  Lemon Lounge serves mostly Middle Eastern food, and also has vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.  There are also a number of international dishes to give the menu some variety.  The food is served buffet-style and the staff is more than helpful.  Some of the menu favorites include lamb ouza, seafood biryani, and chicken kebab.  There is also a delicious dessert table, and a variety of tasty Arabic drinks.  Lemon Lounge is open every day from 6:30AM until 10:30PM.

Corniche All Day Dining

Corniche All Day Dining is another buffet option in Abu Dhabi's Corniche, this one located in the Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche.  The large dining room is casual and comfortable, and the buffet features an impressively large spread of international dishes throughout the entire day.  You'll find the tables full of a variety of sushi, giant crab and lobster, mussels, lamb dishes, and various kebabs.  Pastas and pizzas are also available for the less adventurous.  The dessert table is also expansive and provides a spread of selections for everyone.  Corniche All Day Dining is open daily from 6AM to 10:30PM.

Shish Shawerma

Shish Shawerma is a casual franchise restaurant in Abu Dhabi with multiple locations, many of which are in central Abu Dhabi and near the Corniche waterfront.  The menu is full of tasty options of salads, jacket potatoes, fries, hummus, and different shawermas.  Bread is baked fresh every day and your shawermas will be cooked to crispy perfection.  A number of crepes are also on the menu, the most popular being the Nutella banana crepes. The variety of fresh juices and non-alcoholic cocktails will definitely quench your thirst.  Shish Shawerma is open daily from 11AM to 1AM.

Things to do in Abu Dhabi in April

UAE Jet Ski Race

Abu Dhabi is a popular location for jet ski racing, and April is one month where such races take place, organized by the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club.  Dozens of riders speed along the Corniche at over 100 km/h in different racing classes.  Some of the categories include juniors, novice stock, pro runabout, and freestyle.  Watching the races is free and can be viewed from almost anywhere along the Corniche, though the races do take place closer to the breakwater.

Heritage Folk Village

The Emirates Heritage Club runs a reconstruction of a traditional desert oasis village.  This folk village offers an insight into the U.A.E.'s history, providing glimpses of old desert life.  You'll see traditional farm tools, tents constructed of goat hair, ancient irrigation systems, and marine vessels.  Craftsmen show off pottery, metalworking methods, and blanket weaving.  There is also a small restaurant and spice shop where you can sample traditional foods.  The Heritage Folk Village is located on the Corniche breakwater and is open Saturday through Thursday from 9AM to 4PM and on Friday from 3:30PM to 9PM.

Yas Waterworld

Escape the heat at Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi, a large water park set on almost 40 acres of land on Yas Island.  Yas Waterworld is home to over 40 rides, including the longest suspended roller coaster in the Middle East.  The waterpark is split up into separate areas consisting of fast-paced rides, adventure-themed attractions, and children's attractions.  You'll find lazy rivers, fast curvy slides, and speedy roller coasters within this park.  Shops and restaurants are also spread out throughout the park.  There are numerous changing rooms and lockers available for rent.  Yas Waterworld is open daily from 10AM to 6PM.

Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital

One of the top-rated attractions in Abu Dhabi is surprisingly a hospital.  The Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital is one of the most notable falcon hospitals in the world, taking care of the falcons that play a huge part in Arabic tradition.  The hospital offers informative tours that all visitors love.  Guides will take you through the hospital and educate you on falcons, their role in Arab culture, provide interactions with the falcons, and maybe you'll even be lucky enough to watch a medical procedure.  Tours must be booked in advance but your hotel will be able to do this for you.  The Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital is located near the Abu Dhabi International Airport.
