Montanitais a small town to the west of Ecuador, situated in the province of Santa Elena. Montanita is the perfect holiday destination for surfers and beach lovers. It has a warm tropical climate all year round which doesnât fluctuate greatly. However, the town does undergo a rainy season from December to May. Rainfall is moderately low and typically falls in the evening and overnight. With humble and quiet beginnings, Montanita is now a popular tourist destination and continues to welcome tourists from all over the world.
Summer in Montanita enjoys a warm climate with an average high temperature of around 27°C, providing the perfect weather for sunbathing. The maximum temperature can hit an absolutely sweltering 44°C in June and so sun cream and cool clothing is a must. Visitors are advised to check the weather forecast before their arrival, so to come prepared. The average low temperature hangs around the early 20°C zone, providing its residents and visitors a break from the hot sun and a chance to cool down slightly. Rainfall is light throughout the Summer season and only receives up to 2 days of rain each month, normally above 100 millimetres of rain altogether. Tourism hits a low in June and so is a time of year when you can relax and unwind without much distraction from others.
Autumn has weather rather similar to summer, again with an average high temperature of around 27°C and an average low being around a slightly cooler 22°C. Autumn receives less rainfall than throughout the summer months, still with around 2 days of precipitation but only at around 70 millimetres of rain altogether each month.
Winter is the time when tourism hits its peak in Montanita, particularly in January. The sun shines more with an average high temperature of around a hot 28°C and its average low temperature still pleasant at around 23°C. Rainfall is moderate but not too much of a problem throughout the winter months, with up to 83 millimetres of rain altogether each month. Each February, Montanita hosts an international surfing competition drawing surfers from all over to its shores, as well as tourists who like to witness the competition.
Spring is a warm time of year in Montanita, with temperatures hitting around 29°C. The average low temperatures hang around 23°C, so still a pleasant climate for habitants of Montanita and tourists to enjoy. With up to 10 days of precipitation, Montanita can have up to around 95 millimetres of rainfall altogether each month, so visitors are advised to pack an umbrella!
Montanitaâs main attraction is its fantastic surf. Its strong and consistent waves make it a fantastic place for accomplished surfers but here is a word of warning: beginner surfers may find it difficult and challenging. Montanita depends on tourism for business, particularly with its delicious food and hand-made crafts (perfect for souvenirs and gifts for friends and family). To ensure a safe holiday, visitors are advised to pack sun cream with them during their visit and to take care in the water.
